Rutherford Weekly www.rutherfordweekly.com 828-248-1408 RUTHERFORD WEEKLY SPORTS FAST WAY East-Central Meet On Court, Playoff P anthers Get 49ers On the basketball court, it is rivalry week with East Rutherford facing R-S Central on Friday (1/10). East has relied on Travis Waldroup-Rodriguez and Devonte Boykins all season long. Kaleb McEntire on defense, Shakari Jackson, and Trey Dawkins have stepped up, but will it be enough against a R-S Central who has a little more depth. Rashaun Whitesides and Jaylen Hollis have carried the team thus far. I honestly think East will have the edge by seven points with Boykins relentlessness being the biggest reason. On the girls side, this year, it won't even be close. East Rutherford is just better than R-S Central this season. The past few years, the Lady Cavs haven't been able to say that. East ladies by 20. It's not really a rivalry, but Chase will host East Burke on Friday (1/10). Chase will then get to their rivalry game with East Rutherford on Tuesday (1/14). Thomas Jefferson doesn't play at Cool Springs again until the Jan. 17. It's the NFL Playoffs and anything can happen, but I have thought all year that Seattle and Denver would meet in the Super Bowl. The good news is that it may include Carolina this season. In the NFC, San Francisco comes to Carolina. New Orleans will go to Seattle. The last time the two teams got together was this season, Carolina eked out a 10-9 win at Candlestick Park. Both are very defensive teams and expect nothing less than that. Carolina has won 11 of their last 12 games and lost just once at home all year. I could see the 49ers winning this one, but the Panthers have been clutch all year. Broadway St., Forest City fense in the NFC, but Seattle maybe overall the best team in the league. New Orleans was humiliated earlier this year at Seattle in a 27-point loss. I like Seattle's secondary over New Orleans Drew Brees. For thought, Seattle lost just once at home all year and they have won 15 of their last 16 games at homes. Seattle 33-17. In the AFC, Indy will go to New England, while the San Diego heads to Denver. Yes, New England is without Gronkowski, but that doesn't matter this week. If New England can effectively double cover Indy's T.Y. Hilton down the field, the Andrew Luck doesn't have much else to target. Although Indy made the second biggest comeback in NFL history and on the road, this weeks' task is much more difficult on the road. I like New England easily 38-21. Of course, I think the most intriguing is San Diego at Denver. San Diego is the one team Denver didn't want to see again. San Diego has Denver to an average of 24 point per game this season in the first two meeting, which they split. In the other 14 games this season, the Broncos have averaged 39.8 points per game. San Diego has a defense that can disrupt Peyton Manning, but not completely stop that offense. Wes Welker was hurt the last time the two teams played in a 27-20 San Diego win at Mile High Stadium, but most importantly, Denver rushed for just 18 yards that night. I do question the Broncos defense. San Diego could very well upset Denver, but not after Denver fell to Baltimore last year in the playoffs. Denver 27-20. So, I am taking Carolina going to Seattle and New England visiting Denver in the conference title games. We are a debt relief agency.
