January 1, 2014 Assessors Corner #3 Disabled Persons Property Tax Exemption The La Paz County Assessor will be accepting applications for Disabled Persons Property Tax Exemption for 2014, between the months of January 1 and March 1 of 2014. The applications for are available at the County Assessor's Office in the County in which your property is located. If you are an established and permanent resident of Arizona; have titled ownership on property to be exempted and have limited income. Then you may want to review the qualifications for the tax relief program. You may call our office at (928) 669-6165 for additional information packet. There is a couple of ways an applicant can qualify for this exemption. Obtain a Certification of Disability form and have completed by the examining Physician or Psychiatrist to be certified as 100% totally and permanently disabled, either physically or mentally, resulting in that person's inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity. Or, if not a permanent disability, is the disability expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months. To qualify for the Property Tax Exemption, the total of the Assessed Value of all real and personal property owned in the State of Arizona cannot exceed set limits. The State has set a limitation of the amount of properties you can own, by 39 www.DesertMessenger.com limiting the assessment of all properties. Property ownership is a requirement for any property to be exempted from taxation if you qualify. If there are multiple ownerships on the property record, the amount of exemption will be applied to the applicant's undivided interest. There is an income guideline on the amount of taxable income a household is allowed to make. This means everyone that has income; that lives in your home, must report their income to the Assessor. The amounts of taxable income vary depending whether children reside in the household or not. For example: If children under the age of 18 reside with you, or a disabled child over 18 resides with you, then the amount you are able to make in taxable income is $36,643.00 (2014) but not to exceed that amount. If you have no children in the household, then the taxable income cannot exceed $30,536.00 (2014). There's a bonus if you qualify, the excess or left over exemption may be applied to the Vehicle License Tax of your vehicles. But, you must be a titled owner of the vehicle and it must be registered in the State of Arizona. During the Property Tax Exemption application period, my staff will be in the Bouse, Quartzsite, Wenden, Salome, and Ehrenberg locations. The team of Joe McWilliams & Dennis Dole won in a playoff with Larry Krohling & Bud Key. Both teams fired scores of 36. Three teams tied for third place shooting 38's. Those teams were Cletus Winkler & Bill Buckley, Roy Lawson & Gene Howard, and Gene Swallow & Jerry Taylor. Cletus fired a hole-in-one in a playoff to earn 3rd place for his team. Tournament director, Dino Linden, would like to remind all adults that there is a tournament at the town courses north of town every Saturday starting at 10:00.
