STATE BUDGET SHORTFALL AND PREPARE FOR 2011 LEGISLATIVE SESSION What does the $3.7 billion budget shortfall mean to nonprofi ts in North Carolina? More than 200 nonprofi t leaders from across the state will convene on January 19 to discuss this critical question and how the new legislative landscape will affect the nonprofi t sector in 2011. The nonprofi t sector provides about 400,000 jobs in North Carolina, roughly 10 percent of the state’s workforce. Last year, 40 percent of North Carolina nonprofi ts reduced staff, according to a survey from the N.C. Center for Nonprofi ts. “North Carolina nonprofi ts experienced a 26% decline in state sup- port last year. According to a new report from the Urban Institute, North Carolina’s decreased investment in nonprofi ts was the fourth-worst of any state in 2009,” said David Heinen, director of public policy and ad- vocacy with the N.C. Center. Moreover, state-funded nonprofi ts in North Carolina experience a wide range of government contracting issues. These include overly complex and diffi cult-to-complete government bidding and reporting require- ments, unexpected changes to contracts made by the government mid- term, and even nonpayment of contracts and grants. These state cuts and contracting problems have forced already effi - cient nonprofi ts to downsize staff, reduce salaries and benefi ts, and dip into lines of credit. With nothing further to cut internally, a third of North Carolina nonprofi ts had to reduce their level of service this year. Given the state’s looming 2011 budget shortfall, North Carolinians in need are likely to face even deeper cuts. “What may be less obvious is that nonprofi ts’ struggles affect the quality of life for all North Carolinians, not just those who rely on the social safety net. As support for nonprofi ts wanes, children, seniors, low-income families, people with disabilities, victims of domestic vio- lence, and others who rely on their services can’t get the level of care they need,” said Heinen. At the gathering Wednesday, nonprofi t leaders will hear about the changing landscape of the N.C. General Assembly, receive training on working with legislators and advocating for their causes, and learn about the state rules and requirements for lobbying. In addition, United Way of North Carolina and the N.C. Budget & Tax Center will present an update on the state budget and the outlook for economic recovery in North Carolina. Wednesday’s event will be held 9:30am-2:45pm at Marbles Kids Mu- seum in Raleigh and is sponsored by the Z. Smith Reynolds Founda- tion. For more information, visit www.ncnonprofi ts.org. How Did By: Evangelist W.C. “Dub” Dellinger - Age 90 You Get It? 8:03 AM MONDAY THRU 1320AM FRIDAY WAGY All my life growing up I would hear about people who had a lot of money and were rich. Some would say don’t mess around with them, as if having money was the unpar- donable sin. Let me say this, just having money is not a sin. How you get the money is the way our God looks at it. It may be His will for you to have millions and billions. How did you get the money and what are you doing with it? You do not have to be rich in gold or silver. You can be rich in livestock, horses and cattle. I suppose the first really rich man men- tioned in a Good Bible would be Abram, whom God loved and changed his name to Abraham, then known as Abraham the Richness. It seems if a man had any gold, he was looked at as a rich man. If you search out a Good Bible about gold, you will find gold mentioned in forty-two books. At a young age, I had a money Gold Piece, won at a city drawing in Cherryville, NC. I don’t recall feeling rich over it. Coming out of a depres- sion, it was good grocery money. It may come as a surprise to some, but your Lord and Savior wants you to be rich. But get it honest by all means, and give back to Him, His part. In this, satisfy yourself and Him. It is alright to be paid for working for the Lord, JUST DON’T PUT THE MONEY FIRST or it will be condemned. Look at money as to buy clothing and food first, then let the other things fall in place. Somewhere along the line find someone to help. You have to show the Lord who and what you are. This can start in the womb and your background raising. We worship the same God as Jacob and Esau. A TRUE and all knowing GOD made decisions between JACOB AND ESAU and His decision turned out right in the life that they both lived. Wonder why so many so called Christians can not get their lives straight and Jacob had to live the life that was appointed him, while Esau did his as he wanted to all the time, self-willed and head strong and would not listen to his Father or Mother. Heb. 12:16... Let there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, for one morsel of meat sold his birth- right. Verse 17 - For ye know how that afterward when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repen- tance, though he sought it carefully with tears. He abused what he was taught. The same as us abusing the HOLY GHOST today. If you worship money, there will be no forgiveness, because Jesus said so.
