Nelson Mandela inspired a nation to come together, heal from the past, and walk in a good way together. I've been inspired by this man. He was not perfect and never claimed to be a saint.I hope we can all learn from the teachings of this peaceful and forgiving man. Proud to be a Quartzsite Licensed Business 928-916-4235 Copyright 2013 In a world where a local school board member has to share news of another school shooting, one year from the heartbreaking Newtown tragedy, where do we begin to heal? Our hearts go out to the parents and victims of recent shooting tragedies. "We owe our children – the most vulnerable citizens in any society – a life free from violence and fear." ~ Nelson Mandela (1918 – 2013) Attending last week's school board meeting, I learned the Quartzsite Elementary School District has not implemented a plan for the worst case scenario with local authorities. I pray we never have to experience the kind of tragedies playing out all over our country with the needless loss of young lives. Arapahoe High School was prepared. However, we are not. This must change. Mandela prepared for his life outside prison, never giving up. His lessons of reconciliation are, perhaps, the most precious legacies anyone has ever left the world. He taught us to take responsibility. How shall we take responsibility for the safety of our youth? In the spirit of the holidays, and yes, I do say "Happy Holidays", as we are a multicultural society which celebrates many holidays at this time of the year. I will also wish you a Very Merry Christmas, Happy Yule, and Happy New Year, which are holidays... plural. So if you are insulted when someone wishes you Happy Holidays, get over it. Mandela was insulted year after year during his 27 years in prison, but he lived his life showing us how to forgive those who have done us wrong. Happy Holidays to your and your loved ones!
