December 18, 2013 5 www.DesertMessenger.com Silent Auction for troops another huge sucess By Joanne Winer Operation Hero Comfort held its annual Silent Auction for the Troops this past Saturday, and it was a huge success in spite of the new location and fewer people attending. Those who did come were bidding on over 200 donated items that were displayed at rows of tables in the new Community Center. The auction was held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and by 4pm all bid sheets were gathered up and the people who had the highest bids received their items. The auction consisted of items that were donated by local businesses, vendors and individuals, and Operation Hero Comfort would like to thank all those people who donated items for this event. The auction would not be such a great fundraiser for the troops if not for them all. They would also like to say a big thank you to Thrivent for Lutherans, who again this year matched funds up to $500.00, and that will make a big difference since the monies are used for sending packages for the troops in harm's way. This group also had volunteers on hand to help set up and break down the event, and they are really appreciated for all their help and support. Thanks to everyone who came out and bid on the items, the event was very successful, and all the cards that were signed at the auction were put into the packages that will go out to the adopted units this Tues. (Dec. 17), so they will also get them in time for Christmas as well as their two normal boxes and one extra filled with cookies and candy for Christmas--they will love it!!
