Archeologist Charlene Swankie and Ralph Hysong are doing alot of the excavating. Using mining classifiers, volunteers are sifting through the remains of burned out building which stood west of the museum. The building burned sometime before the flood in 1916. They have dug up the dirt and found burnt wood from a flooring and now she has found another flooring underneath made of plaster. So far, volunteers have found a 22 cartridge, two 45 rim fire cartridges, and a 50 caliber rim fire cartridge, possibly dating back to the 1850's. A piece of fabric which appears to be burlap was found, possibly used for privacy. Just this past week they found a 1897-99 dime. The goal is to restore the building back to the way it was, plastered inside and outside. The building was used as sleeping quarters. It was originally covered with saguaro cactus spines, with dirt on top. The museum is open November through March; Wednesday through Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM. 161 W Main St. (928) 927-5229 Conveniently located in the Horizon Community Bank parking lot Ironwood Outpost, LLC offers a variety of services including: PRIVATE MAIL BOX MAIL PICKUP NOTARY UPS/FEDEX OFFICE SERVICES Individual mail box (includes forwarding for annual box holders) Full time residents with keys-we will pick up and forward your mail.
