Chi Zetagram Lambda Chi Alpha - University of Illinois - Champaign, Illinois • Fall 2013 Alumni Board Works toward the Future of Chi Zeta New Alumni Communications Program Launched We hope you like the design and the content of the new Chi Zetagram. The Alumni Association will be working closely with the newly elected High Rho, Jeremy Loescher '12 X2016, to provide assistance and help assure the continued quality of the Chi Zetagram and other communications from the active chapter and the Alumni Association. Because the newsletter is targeted to alumni, the new Chi Zetagram will have a renewed focus on alumni news, including career updates and spotlight articles on alumni of all generations. Of course, the Chi Zetagram will update you on news from the undergraduate chapter and social events. Chapter House Update The board continues to strategically plan for the future of Chi Zeta. There is a pressing need for a modern chapter house and to keep our home safe for undergraduate members. The addition, built in the 1970s, is not viable beyond a few more years and can no longer provide needed support and amenities for our growing chapter (now over 130 active members, with an associate member class of 34). The original house is solid but lacks amenities and a layout conducive to a fraternity today and in the future. Importantly, Chi Zeta faces increasing competition from Greek and non-Greek entities. Just in the neighborhood, Theta Xi and Alpha Sigma Phi have built new chapter houses within the last five years. Pi Kappa Alpha and Alpha Kappa Lambda have also built entirely new structures. The university is tearing down the entire six-pack of dorms south of the house and replacing them with new residence and dining hall options. It is important for us to remain competitive against these housing options, and we will report updates to you in future issues of the newsletter. Steve Lipe '86 X1261 presents the need to stay competitive with other housing projects on campus. Bill Stallman '48 X519 and Dick Reynolds '49 X600 (right) enjoy lunch before the game with other alumni and actives. An Exciting Time to Be Involved The active chapter is thriving and engaged, with several members involved in various campus activities and philanthropies. The Alumni Association is growing, active, and engaged—but we could use your help! The board has formed a number of committees, and we are actively seeking volunteers from all generations for help. We have needs in finance, communications, strategic planning, and organizing social activities. If you are interested in volunteering your time and talents, please contact Association Board Vice President Dick Prebil '72 X973 at rprebil@comcast.net. Yours in ZAX, Peter Kale '75 X1020 Association Board President Richard Melinder '60 X755 and Keith Johnson '60 X753 with their wives, Carol and B'Ann, at Homecoming.
