Alumni Update Chapter Eternal______________ Allen Dodge '38 entered Chapter Eternal on March 22, 2012. He was raised in Salina and graduated in 1934. Allen served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. With his ever‑present ethics, compassion and integrity, Allen worked his way into a 40‑year career as the president of Homestead Savings and Loan. He was also the owner of Dodge Agency Realtors and worked in complement with several agencies, including Dodge, King, and Groves. Allen retired in 1978 and indulged in his love of fishing, golf, and, most importantly, family. Edwin H. Wienecke '40 entered Chapter Eternal on December 12, 2010, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After graduating from Tulsa Central High School in 1936, he attended the University of Kansas. At KU, he was involved in many activities, including playing for Phog Allen on the basketball team. In 1940, Edwin graduated with a degree in accounting. He then enlisted in the Marine Corps and served until 1946. In 1948, he joined Pantepec Oil and moved his wife, Jeanne Katherine Williams, and his family to Venezuela. After returning to Tulsa in 1956, he began a successful 25-year career with Flintco Inc. serving as president. Upon retirement in 1982, he was named Honorary Director for Life by the United Way and Honorary Trustee of the University of Tulsa. Robert F. Ellsworth '45 entered Chapter Eternal on May 9, 2011. He was a United States legislator and diplomat and served as the United States permanent representative to NATO. He had previously served three terms as a Republican member of Congress from Kansas from 1961 to 1967. He also served as assistant to the president during Richard Nixon's term. He was deputy secretary of defense under President Gerald Ford and served as assistant to the chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission. He served in the Navy during World War II and Attention:This newsletter is intended for alumni, undergraduates, and parents. Robert P. Shirley '46 entered Chapter Eternal on May 10, 2012, in Dallas, Texas. His wife, Barbara, and three sons: Paul, Jay, and Tom, as well as their families, survive him. James S. Francis '52 entered Chapter Eternal on August 23, 2012. He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps and the Marine Corps Reserve, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel. Jim and his father had their own tax law practice in Wichita until 1975 when Jim came to Tulsa to work at Touche‑Ross. Later he joined Morse‑Sexton as their tax attorney and finally was controller at Campbell Wholesale Co., where he retired. Winton Allen Winter '52 entered Chapter Eternal on May 4, 2013, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Wint attended Lawrence public schools and the University of Kansas, where he was a member of the KU football team and the Naval ROTC. In 1952, he married Nancy Mae Morsbach after graduating with a business degree. Throughout his life, Wint's interests were deep in nature. They were embodied by mountain climbing and planting thousands of trees; in military history by his deep respect of veterans; in Kansas by his own pre-Civil War Kansas ancestors, in the Jayhawks by witnessing hundreds of athletic contests across the country, in geopolitics by his travels and in education by constantly observing, reading and story-telling.
