Gamma Phone MIGA Chapter House Set to Reopen Fall 2014 SAE F&H Plans Major Upgrades to Facility A fter renting the MIGA chapter house to the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity for the past four years, 342 North Harrison is ready to be reoccupied by the men of the Michigan Gamma chapter in the fall of 2014. The chapter house will be at full capacity for the 2014-15 academic school year and is ready to make its presence known on Harrison Avenue again. The house, which is owned by SAE Financial & Housing Corporation, will undergo some cosmetic upgrades to prepare for MIGA to move back in. Upgrades to the house will include: • Renovating the kitchen to bring it up to code • Adding new flooring throughout the house • Purchasing new dining room, chapter room, and bedroom furniture • Repainting the interior walls • Remodeling the kitchenette in the dining room • Replacing the water-damaged rear exterior wall and windows • Updating the fire alarm system • Installing new washers and dryers • Upgrading the exterior landscaping • Replacing the exterior SAE letters Because SAE F&H owns part of the house, it will be required for a house director to live in the home full time. A thorough interview process will take place to find the right candidate who can be a mentor to the young men, protect the chapter house, and be a welcoming face for alumni when they come to visit. Many of our alumni have fond memories of their house mom, and we hope to create that same environment for our young brothers next year and in the future. Another upgrade to the living environment is the addition of weekend cooks. In the past, the brothers were responsible for providing their own meals on weekends. In order to be competitive, SAE F&H found that providing meals not only during the week but also on the weekend was necessary. This also reduces the amount of student kitchen use and will help ensure the longevity of our kitchen renovation. When alumni come back to the house for home football games on Saturdays, please feel free to stop in and grab a bite to eat. The final addition to the chapter house was to hire a full-time maid service. Requiring new members to clean and maintain the house is now considered hazing, so we hired a maid service, similar to the sororities. The house is cleaned throughout the week and on Saturday mornings. The saying goes, if the house is clean, the men tend to keep it clean; if the house is dirty, they make it dirtier. We look forward to welcoming MIGA alumni back at anytime, but a special Homecoming for 2014 will rededicate the chapter house. We hope to see you there.
