Hilites Alpha Delta GAMMA PHI BETA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI House Corporation Adds Finishing Touches to the Garden of Life Alumnae Make Summer Repairs to Chapter House W elcome to fall 2013! As I write this, we are working on delivery of a three-ton granite boulder to be set in the Garden of Life. You can imagine how thrilled my husband, Hank, was to make a detour on our summer vacation trip to Wisconsin. We had to stop at a monument company in Quincy, Illinois, to view the color of the quartz boulder we would be ordering for the garden. Hopefully, when this newsletter arrives at your home, the boulder will have been placed. I encourage anyone who wants to have a name added to the boulder to please contact me as we will be adding names once a year. We received a very generous donation from Cindy Marlen Gasper '72. She has pledged to donate the remaining money needed to complete the plantings of the garden. Please see the article on page 2 that discusses her motivation The old paint room where banners used to be made of why she wanted to thank is now a super silent study room. Alpha Delta for providing her with such a great experience! It's really inspiring to hear these stories. As always, we are hoping our alumnae will continue to make donations for the garden. The House Corporation Board was very busy with summer repairs and updates. Below are a few summer highlights: • The new super silent study room addition was completed and new computers were purchased that your capital campaign dollars helped finance. • Our decision to collect room damage deposit from every member living in the house helped keep the rooms and house in good condition. This fall saw a record number of 83 women moving into the house. It is always so exciting to greet these members and their families as they embark on a new college experience of having the privilege of living in the house for a year. I wish all members could experience what many of us did living in the house for three years. • Alpha Delta Chapter became an 1874 member of the International Gamma Phi Beta Foundation. • Many alumnae stepped forward to volunteer their expertise and talents to serve in alumnae advisor positions. This is the first time in years we have so many active advisors available for the women of the chapter. As I have written in the past, I would like to keep this newsletter going with at least two editions each year. We would appreciate it if you would once again show your support by sending in a contribution so we can continue to produce this newsletter to keep everyone informed. Your donations can be sent to: Alpha Delta, P.O. Box 36, Columbia, MO 65205. Your contributions and support have given a renewed sense of purpose to Alpha Delta and we cannot wait to see what the future holds. It is truly heartwarming to see so many of you wholeheartedly support the chapter. Also, I want to encourage everyone to go to the National Gamma Phi Beta website and create a new contact. If you do not know your membership number, you can send an e-mail to gammaphibeta@gammaphibeta.org or call (303) 799-1874 (ext. 4) and request your number so you can set up a login.
