D������� 15, 2010 WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY? By Kelly Bliss Reflexology is a type of therapy that involves the massaging of the feet to treat and heal an individual’s en- tire body. Reflexologists use pressure points on the feet, similar to acupunc- ture points, to detect blockages of energy in the body. They aim to cor- rect the blockages by massaging the feet and applying pressure to specific points on the feet. As a result, the pres- sure applied is believed to effect inter- nal organs. It is said to be a gentle type of therapy, used to restore the body’s natural balance, as well as to help maintain its equilibrium. Today, Reflexology is used as a thera- peutic treatment for a full range of conditions including, Poor Circulation, Diabetes, Neuropathy, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Migraines, Sleep Disorders, Arthritis, Depression and Anxiety. Reflexology can act as an effective tool in relaxing the body and the mind, relieving stress and helping to restore a general feeling of well being. People from all ages benefit from Reflexology treatment. While some may choose to enjoy the therapy on an occasional ba- sis, many choose to receive such treat- ments regularly. Many individuals who seek regular treatments believe doing so helps them to maintain their health and well being. Many medical doctors and other health care profes- sionals also recognize it as an effective therapeutic treatment. Some recom- mend it to their patients as a supple- ment to medical care.
