D 15, 2010  GOLD FROM PAGE 30 Years ago he thought nothing of packing all his gear down into the wash and sleep- ing under the stars. By doing the process in steps now, he wouldn’t get too tired out. Yep, just as he suspected when he panned out the final material, the yellow pieces be- gan to appear from under the black sand. Some big, some small, but they all count was his attitude. It was gold that no other human being had ever seen. Maybe after the sun dropped a little in the sky, he might take out his metal detec- tor and go find a nugget; always the dream, but it all was getting harder to do each year. Quietly moving slowly along in a methodi- cal fashion, he got a beep, a whisper in the head set and three inches down he found a shiny nugget, just frosting on the cake. As the sun set in the clear western sky he said it’s “Miller Time” and headed for his camp. He’s had a good day, some gold, some fresh air and some exercise. His ATV and little WOOD‘N LACE Zee’s .DM. red trailer allowed him to have another day out in the field. “I’ll sleep well tonight”, he said to himself as he fixed a bite to eat. Addendum 10/09 Well, time has passed and the Old Pros- pector has watched the younger generation prospect with their new Pulse Induction metal detectors and longed to own one. One day with enough money in his pocket, he took a deep breath and bought the new- est PI machine on the market. Oh, it was difficult to learn how to use it, but he per- sisted, reading and rereading the instruc- tion manual. With advice from his younger friends, he felt confident enough to give it a try. It is said this machine would find gold much deeper then his old detectors ever would. Now could he really dig that hard dirt? Within a week he had answered that ques- tion. With a sharper tougher tool, he could dig deeper. The nuggets were not easy to find but at least he had proven that he could find a big one, so it was worth the money he paid for the luxury of owning the finest ma- chine built for gold prospecting, a machine that his kids say he well deserved to own.
