Beyond the "royal" blue sapphires and canary diamonds that have dominated the stage for the past few decades, brides are choosing champagne, cognac and black diamonds and even specially cut semiprecious stones, reflecting the cocktail ring trend. The look continues with metals; although platinum and white gold remain a classic choice, yellow and rose gold are back and here to stay and bring out the richness of colored stones for a stunning, unique statement. Vintage styles, in particular Art Deco-inspired, have also been the celebrity engagement pick as of late. Wedding Bands Although many designers offer bridal sets to ensure that a wedding band is the perfect counterpart to an engagement ring, these days many brides are choosing bands that aren't so "matchymatchy." One way to keep the look versatile is to purchase a set of stacking micro pavé bands. On casual days one band can be worn alone for a delicate look, and on other occasions the bands can be stacked along with the engagement ring or even other pieces. This concept also sets up a beautiful anniversary tradition… how about one new band for every year or to celebrate milestone events? As for men's bands – more and more manufacturers are recognizing that guys also want to flaunt their personal style, and have responded with specialized lines. Putting aside the "man-gagement" concept for the moment, trends include contemporary metals like steel and titanium, engraved or enameled motifs, and accent gemstones.
