Editor's Letter Brooke Conner Sevenau Editor At Large Treasures, trinkets, talismans…these are a few of my very favorite things. Just ask my children who are the frequent recipients of magical tokens of my love: Iridescent feathers, sparkly crystals, smooth round pebbles, a fancy piece of chocolate, a love note in their lunch. Each of these is a tangible symbol of my love that they can hold or save or carry with them. letter My wedding ring from my husband is much the same to me. A visible reminder – a touchstone – that he is with me every day and that our decision to join together as a family is precious and lasting and beautiful. A tangible symbol of love. e d i to r ' s This is the reason why bridal jewelry is a special category all its own. It represents a decision. A promise. A future. Designers, retailers and customers are in agreement on the importance of this special decision and purchase. The designers featured in this issue have unique philosophies on bridal jewelry that make the discussion interesting in new ways. From unique uses of metals, to sustainable diamonds and alternatives to diamonds altogether, bridal jewelry hasn't been this dynamic in decades. Jennifer Dawes is a leader of sustainable beauty, choosing to stand behind environmentally and ethically sound sources for her stunning designs. Her current partnership with Lewis 'Lazer' Wolf and Jaime Jaffe, is an exciting collaboration built on transparency as well as beauty and great design. Katey Brunini challenges the definition of alternative bridal with her gorgeous rings and a historical perspective on bridal jewelry – which presents a great twist to the concept of 'traditional' since diamond engagement rings only came into vogue in the last century whereas people have been exchanging jewelry as a token of love since ancient times. We are at the vanguard of a new chapter in bridal jewelry. In fact, the current wave of jewelry designers is delivering monumental changes in design philosophy. For more on this current wave of designers and how they are changing the industry, read the story on author Beth Bernstein and her new coffee table book, Jewelry's Shining Stars. The bridal issue is always a personal favorite of ours at The Wedding Ring Book. It is a particularly celebratory issue and we are happy to share great ideas and trends that are coming your way!
