Romantic Notions d e s i g n e r pro f il e K at h a r i n e J a m e s By Beth Bernstein K atharine James' passion for wedding jewelry runs deep. After a two year hiatus, she is making a comeback, marrying the past and the present in a new bridal collection in her signature styles that borrows from the delicate garlands, swirls, filigree and millegrain detailing of the Edwardian/Belle Époque, period. Her collection speaks to a woman's desire for feminine and romantic elements in engagement rings and wedding bands. Two new ring styles that are favorites of James include a canary yellow diamond surrounded by a classical hallo of white diamond pave and an intricate refined gallery as well as a band of vines which wind into a pave- shank that hold an asscher cut center stone. Say's James, "I am very attracted to jewelry with some sort of historical reference—the past influences us in all that we do, so why should it be different in jewelry?" She continues, "I also believe in creating pieces that a woman can instinctually relate to—and rings that are subtly elegant, imbued with character, and are timely today but have the longevity to become heirlooms are those that my customers will immediately respond to. We no longer need to have the same or similar rings of our friends and peers. It's much more important to show who we are and let our femininity shine through." 86 W W W.theWeddingringbook.CoM
