p ublisher FORWARD THINKING T his issue ends an unusual year at CityView and starts a new one, 2011. This past year was a good one, despite the fact we lost two people who helped to build our magazine. But God has put other people in our path and we are creating an even better magazine with their new ideas. We are blessed. CityView will be doing a special issue in the spring to commemorate our five years in business. We are excited that the magazine has grown and continues to grow. Our first issue, in March of 2006, was called “BRAC to the Future,” with Fayetteville’s mayor Tony Chavonne on the cover. Back then the magazine was stitched together and now each issue is perfect bound, an improvement that has made a huge difference in the magazine’s appearance. The design in those days was inconsistent, but now our look rivals the best in the industry, thanks to our Art Director Heather Malone. Heather puts her heart and soul into our publication and she is the reason it looks so good. Our first editor was Linda Scovill and we have had three other editors since then. Our current editors, Rebekah Sanderlin and Kelly Twedell, work as a team and their ideas really complement Heather’s work. We have also added a new person to our sales staff, Mitch Guy. Mitch is a native of Fayetteville and a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. He is very active in the Chamber of Commerce’s young professionals group and you will be seeing a lot of him in the coming months. At the same time that we are adding Mitch we are losing a great account executive in Lucy Benton. Lucy will have delivered her first child by this printing and she has decided to be a stay-at-home mom. We wish her the best and thank her for doing such a great job. A recent audit of CityView shows that 78,000 people in Cumberland County read each issue of our magazine. In the same way that companies like Arbitron and Nielson gauge radio and television popularity, the Circulation Verification Council (CVC) audits magazines. An outstanding 94% of the people contacted by the CVC said they regularly read CityView. Nationally, magazines typically reach only 38% of potential readers, so CityView is doing far better than normal at reaching all areas of our community. The upcoming year promises only more growth for CityView, particularly on our new website, which will be up and running by early 2011. It will be updated weekly and will have even more information about activities and events taking place in Fayetteville than what we have in the magazine. We will also be expanding our popular “Seen at the Scene” section on the website. Thanks for your support and please continue to support our advertisers. Our readers and our advertisers make CityView the best lifestyle magazine in our area.CV 12 | Winter • 2010/2011
