Do It Yourself Decor
What’s not to love about an easy-to-make – and nearly free – decorative display that will take you right through Christmas and into the new year? All you need are a bunch of pinecones – as many as you want and any size will do – and metallic spray paint. Go for silver paint if your style leans towards silver and brushed nickel, gold paint if you favor gold and brass.
Spread some old newspapers on the ground outside
(don’t do this inside, you don’t want to inhale paint fumes) and spray paint the pinecones. You’ll get the best coverage if you spray each one individually but you can lightly sweep paint over them all at once if you’d rather have a dusted look. You may need to apply more than one coat of paint. Let the pinecones dry outside and you’re done. (Hint: You can use the same technique on tree branches, either bare or with the leaves attached and then group several branches in a tall vase.) For an easy and super-quick table centerpiece, stack
or pile several painted pinecones into a clear glass vase or even a trifle dish. Also, a grouping of several in a basket or wooden bowl will look gorgeous on your coffee or end table. CV
