The Knight Errant The Delta Chi Educational Foundation Fall 2013 Foundation Sees Highest Donations for "A"s' Academy and 1890 Society; Prepares for 60th Anniversary T hroughout 2013, Delta Chi has benefited from the generosity of our Foundation's donors. Foundation Increases Support of "A"s' Academy As it has for the past six years, the Fraternity kicked off 2013 with its premier leadership development program, the "A"s' Academy. Thanks to our 2012 "A"s' Academy challenge campaign, The Delta Chi Educational Foundation contributed the highest amount to date toward the educational costs of this program—nearly $110,000. Half of this derived from donors stepping up to meet the challenge by Brother Steve Michels, Marquette '87. Thank you to all who contributed. Your donations are affecting Delta Chi's future in a great way, as each chapter and colony "A" had the opportunity to participate. Brother Michels is following up last year's challenge with a three-year challenge. This new commitment allows both the Fraternity and Foundation the opportunity to better plan for the future as we allocate resources to fund the "A"s' Academy each year. Your support is vital to help us not only exceed this past year's contributions, but to fully fund the educational portion of this program through 2016. 1890 Society Helps Undergraduates Start Giving Back Nearly 250 undergraduates joined the ranks of the Foundation's first undergraduate giving program, the 1890 Society, this past spring. In establishing this program, the Foundation has improved the visibility of the numerous programs offered to our  undergraduates  and has begun the process of  ensuring that brothers graduate with a habit of giving back to Delta Chi. The 1890 Society will continue as an annual undergraduate giving. Watch for more details in presentations at the 2014 "A"s' Academy, regional leadership conferences, and convention in Scottsdale, Arizona. Delta Chi "AA" Miles Washburn, Massachusetts '87, facilitates a workshop at a recent Regional Leadership Conference at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Galbreth Leadership Fund Supports Leadership Programming Earlier this year Executive Director Ray Galbreth, Missouri '69, retired after nearly 35 years of service. Ray's tenure with Delta Chi touched nearly all of us, and left a mark on our Fraternity that will be present for many years. A new account was established in Brother Galbreth's name at the 2012 Convention, with the intention of supporting the Fraternity's leadership programming. Thank you to all who have pledged more than $125,000, thus far, in support of the Raymond D. Galbreth Leadership Fund. Educational Programming and Beneficiaries Grows Significantly The Foundation will mark its 60th anniversary in 2014. Over the years, Delta Chi has seen its number of educational programs and beneficiaries grow significantly. I'm proud that for the first time in our history, if someone wishes to financially support Delta Chi, the Foundation now offers a vehicle for doing so. This year, we rounded out our support for numerous chapter scholarship, housing, fraternity, and inter-fraternal leadership development programs with two new programs. The Duane and Mary Meyer Scholarship Account will be offered to all undergraduate brothers. It is neither chapter, region, need, nor performance-based. The Graduate Scholarship Account will offer grants to Delta Chi graduate students performing near the top of their classes in law, medical, and business programs. These two accounts will roll out this winter and will begin granting scholarships in 2014. It is my hope that your enthusiasm for Delta Chi is as strong as mine and, as a result, you will continue to support Delta Chi's Foundation. Your help is vital, and getting behind one of our many worthy programs truly helps us ensure our undergraduates' and Fraternity's success.  Fraternally, James M.
