Alpha Legend Defined by Success, Credits Beta Theta Pi Reflects on Upcoming 175th Anniversary By: Mike Scott '10 A this storied man; he has been, and continues to be, deeply defined by a total immersion in his associations. Once we exchanged greetings, he quickly transitioned. "Shall we have a quick cocktail before dinner? Follow me through the gauntlet!" While making our way to the elevator, the residents of Evergreen Retirement Community greeted Dolibois. "Hello, John! How do you do?" and "John, it's great to see you." Within minutes of meeting this deeply engaging individual, it was evident his popularity ran rampant. It was my first exposure to what I would come to find over the course of the next six hours with Born in Luxembourg in 1918, Dolibois was the youngest of nine children. His mother died when he was a newborn, and his sister filled the maternal role. She fell in love with an American soldier during World War I, and when she was married and moved to Akron, Ohio, John and his father followed shortly thereafter. He was 12 years old. s he turned the corner, it was clear he was the one I had come to meet. The sparkle in his eyes and the confidence in his smile rendered his subsequent introduction unnecessary. There was no mistaking this charming man was John Dolibois '42. In a roll call of the long, illustrious line of Betas, few would precede John Dolibois in accomplishment. His story is remarkable and intimately intertwined with that of Beta, America, and world history. (Continued on page 3)
