Drunk fighting and parties every night By the time “Ursa Major” was released, Third Eye Blind had toured extensively and had amassed a solid following. While most people’s associations went as far as the hits and their mainstream success, many fans have come to love the entire Third Eye Blind discog- raphy and have embraced Jenkins’s songwriting and unique attitude. “I think the band really resonates with them lyrically,” drummer Brad Hargreaves said. The band toured behind Ursa Major for the next year, selling out clubs across the country. Third Eye Blind co-headlined The Bamboozle Roadshow, a travel- ing festival with the band sharing the stage with Boys Like Girls, All Time Low, Good Charlotte and Forever The Sickest Kids. “That was a great experience,” Hargreaves said. “Like band camp for the bad kids. There was very much a communal feeling amongst the bands ... Lots of guest- ing on other people’s sets happened. We had parties every night; we even had some drunk fighting. It was great.” Rockin’ out on campus For those who are concerned the Third Eye Blind experience might not be as dynamic on a college campus, fear not. “It used to feel quite different, but now I don’t see a difference,” Hargreaves said. “The live performance aspect of what we do is really about creating a feeling; that can be created anywhere.” If you are but a casual listener, the band will be sure to “throw in some hits so everybody can get their party on.” Plans? Sundance Film Festival 2011 looks to be another productive year for Third Eye Blind. The group’s fourth album, tentatively titled “Ursa Minor,” is scheduled to be released. Hargreaves and the band took a different approach to recording the new album: “We have really gone back to the ba- sics for this record. There is no substitute to four guys getting in a room together and working on songs. We had gotten away from that in the past.” As of now they are scheduled to do a short run of dates in Australia as part of the Soundwave Festival in late February and early March. But definitely expect them to return stateside, as Hargreaves points out that they are “starting to look at tours in the U.S.” Also, Third Eye Blind is “working on making a movie that will hopefully be ready by the Sundance Film Festival.” With new music and all of these exciting plans in the works, Wednesday is sure to be a night filled with Third Eye Blind rocking Oneonta with full force. _ Adam Sisenwien Nov. 11, 2010 O-Town Scene 25
