What's That? New Learning Tools at Purdue P urdue University developers have designed several pieces of technology designed to help students succeed in and out of the classroom. Passport awards badges for achieving certain learning outcomes. After earning a badge from a class, student organization, or other activity, students can share it on websites like LinkedIn. It begins to create a unique picture of the student and can help tell their story. The goal is to capture learning in all its different forms. BoilerBackPack provides 100 gigabytes of storage space for students and facility to save their documents. The data can be accessed from almost any computer via Internet connection. Hotseat provides a forum in which students can give feedback on classroom experiences. This can help professors adjust their lectures to suit student needs. Websites Beta Chapter www.betasigs.org Jetpack takes the bite out of one of the students' most dreaded expenses: textbooks. This app allows teachers to share "packs" of information, such as videos and readings for course assignments, with their students. Doubletake is a video-sharing software that allows students to take, upload, and share videos for classroom assignments, and it helps professors grade those videos. Mixable is a multifaceted program that connects students with others in their class to aid in learning. It also lets students share files with one another and listen to audio recordings of class sessions. Signals alerts students, as well as their professors, when they are doing poorly in a class. Additionally, it uses data known about the student to suggest adjustments to improve their performance.
