Gamma Phi Beta Rho Chapter Earned Fourth-Highest GPA among All Greek Organizations O n behalf of the Rho Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, I would like to announce we had a fabulous fall formal recruitment. We extended bids to 51 outstanding new members and are excited to add so many wonderful women to our chapter. There are 42 freshmen, eight sophomores, and one junior in the new pledge class, each bringing unique qualities to our already diverse sisterhood. From dance majors to pre-medicine, Italian to German, and outgoing to shy, Rho is a great combination of all different ladies. At the end of the spring 2013 semester, our cumulative GPA was a 3.21, placing Rho fourth among all Greek chapters on campus. Rho's average GPA was higher than the all-women's average and allsorority women's average, which is a huge accomplishment for the members. Our chapter has now raised our minimum GPA from a 2.45 to a 2.5 and that will continue to rise in the coming years. Members have already been hard at work studying since moving in on August 18 and will continue to track study hours throughout the semester. E x ec u t i v e C o u n c i l In October our chapter prepared for our philanthropy Grilled Cheese with the G Phi B's. Our philanthropy chairman, Christa Sauer '11, did a great job planning this event and all of our members enjoyed it. The Gamma Phi house flipped into a cafeteria that served grilled cheese, tomato soup and a soda to all in attendance. Our amazing house mother has unfortunately had multiple family members diagnosed with cancer, so we feel so grateful to be able to support Cancer Connection. Our next event will be Dad's Day! Dad's Day is on Saturday, November 2, which is the Madison vs. Iowa football game. The ladies are invited to a tailgate with their dads and families. After the tailgate, ladies go to the game with their dads or find a local hot spot to catch it on TV. In the upcoming weeks we will also attend sisterhood events and external philanthropies, complete volunteer hours, and continue to complete our weekly study hours. We would like to thank all alumnae for your generous donations and fantastic support. Our chapter is grateful for the alumnae involvement we have and look forward to continuing to build our relationships in the future. The Rho Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta would like you all to know our house is always open, especially during the fall when so many of you are back for game days! In IIKE, Amanda Hart '11 Chapter President amanda-v-hart@uiowa.edu Spotlight on Pam Postal '67 in elementary education. She earned her master's degree in 1976 from California State University in San Francisco. Although Pam ventured away from Iowa her Gamma Phi "bestie and roommate" Barb Mores Johnson '67 has done a great job through the years keeping Pam in the loop with the news of pledge sisters. Recently Pam got to make a surprise visit to the reunion of 1965 and 1966 classes. "Eight of us made our reservations and crashed their reunion. These older alumnae were actually celebrating turning 65. Together! They had made reunions a priority and gathered at each other's homes or in Iowa City a number of times," says Pam. "Jane Phillips '67 and I flew from California to Barb's home to have our own mini-reunion before driving into Iowa City together. That night at Barb's we poured over Gamma Phi scrapbooks, reliving great memories, and realized  we needed to plan some entertainment for the afternoon we would all go to the chapter house for a tour of the remodel. We eight (Continued from page 1) 'pledges' would perform under the arches in the formal living room just like we used to. We still wanted to delight the older girls and remind them why they chose us!  Our ideas flowed like silly, 18-year-old pledges. "After parking at the hotel we entered the designated meeting place, at the designated arrival time, and those same feelings I had as a rushee walking into the Gamma Phi house flooded over me: excitement, anticipation and a little apprehension.  I was greeted with an even greater response as these were now my long-lost sisters," says Pam. Pam is looking forward to a 65th birthday reunion for her pledge class this year. Barb is planning the event, but it has been postponed by Pam's hip replacement and Barb's knee surgery. She lives in Stockton, California, with her husband, Harry Postal, DDS. They have two children and one grandchild. E-mail: pampostal@yahoo.com
