What is also different from SR's past to today? SR most often owns the real property under the club. Staying power, equity, excellent credit, timely government conduct compliance, timely tax compliance—and simply doing things right, doing what SR says it is going to do and ahead of time—has been at the core of SR's heart for many years. It may sound like rhetoric, but it is not. I said to John Weston while he and I were in New York close to two decades ago, "This is a flaky business," to which he replied simply, "We, however, need not be flakes." Having been amongst the best of people in the adult arena, Spearmint Rhino has come back time and again with awards. So SR runs ads in this publication and other publications under the headings of "We Buy Clubs" or "We Partner With Existing Clubs." SR retains a hell of a batting average in establishment of successful clubs anew and conversations of existing non-SR clubs. SR is selective on the clubs that it wholly acquires and in the individuals it associates with in a partnership-style relationship. It has been an excellent 20-plus-year history, and SR has forged great deals, sustained great profits, realized great equity growth and enjoyed individual relationships made. And so, after 20 years in this industry and raising four minor children (two girls and two boys), some 4 years ago I went back to law school and since graduated with a Juries Doctorate law degree.
