Always Alpha Phi Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi Fall 2013 Summer Renovations Prepare Omicron for the Fall I f your summer was anything like mine, it flew by! It's amazing how fast the time goes, especially when you have a laundry list of projects to get done. And believe me—Omicron had a big list! Omicron Chapter Sun Porch Alpha Phi International tells us most chapter house furnishings need to be replaced every seven to nine years due to constant use and wear. Much of Omicron's have stayed in good repair and lasted nearly twice that length of time, thanks to careful selection of quality-built pieces with durable upholstery. Your house corporation board is grateful to alumnae donors and works hard to stretch those dollars they contribute just as far as possible. So, here is our summer 2013 checklist: P rBedroom Flooring – We started out the summer with the 14-year-old bedroom carpets being torn out—a project that was overdue. Just think about this: 49 women live in the house every year, multiply that by 14 years equals 686 pairs of feet walked on that carpet. In their place are lovely laminate floors. The rooms look amazing! P rTV Room – Another remnant of our New tiger carpeting 1999 redecorating received an updated style-check and now features fun, bright colors and lots of seating space so sisters can be together. P rSun Porch – The last facelift for Alpha Phi's "card room" (as it was known when I was in school) was also in 1999. Renamed the "jungle room," it became a popular study space. So at the request of our collegians, there are now additional tables, updated window seat cushions, drapes, and flooring. Comfy reading chairs with ottomans and a loveseat were also added. P rUpstairs Corridors – Truman the Tiger loves our new tiger stripe hallways! Come see! P rBack Stairwell and Landing – This The chapter house kitchen needs updating. Please donate today to help Alpha Phi make this essential project a success. area gets the most wear in the house, and whatever the weather in the parking lot, it comes into the house onto this carpet. Finally, replaced. Hooray! P rSecurity System – Deb Wysocki is our incredible house director. This will be her second year with us, and we are so fortunate to have her at Alpha Phi. She chose to stay in the house over the summer, but it brought to light the need for a security system when one night there was an attempted break-in. Fortunately, very little was damaged, but for safety, a new security system was installed to complement the security cameras we installed in 2012. The safety of our members and guests is priority number one! Planning for next summer's project is already underway. The house corporation board tries to stay a year ahead and next year will tackle an important project—it's a big one! We must update our kitchen, and to do this we need YOUR help. Omicron's north wing (formal living room area and now our library) was added in 1955. White enamel kitchen cabinets were all the rage in the '50s and we still have them! But it's not just a matter of aesthetics. For safety's sake, it's time to evaluate our electrical wiring in this important high-use area—ventilation system, fire suppression, refrigeration, and appliances. We need to expand the food prep and pantry areas to make the kitchen more efficient and costeffective. As you can see from the picture, our cooks can't even get a full-size sheet pan into the kitchen sink! Omicron has a big job ahead. We hope to renovate the kitchen next summer, and with your help, it will happen. Please lend your support for this very important and muchneeded project! Omicron's collegians are counting on us.
