It's the place where Blackbeard's ship Queen Anne's Revenge sunk off the shore and wild horses roam. They can be seen from just off the Beaufort waterfront. While many small vessels make the trek, going aboard a 45-foot catamaran from Lookout Cruises is a first-class experience. The company has sunset, moonrise and dolphin cruises. Perhaps the best though is the half-day trip, where lunch is served, tourists are allowed to collect seashells at the National Seashore, visit a lighthouse and see the wild horses on Harker's Island. While it costs $70 for adults and $55 for children under the age of 12, it could be one of the better activities a family can do. It is located at 600 Front St. For information, call (252) 504-7245. Location: Asheville area Miles from Fayetteville: 180 Must see: Blue Ridge Parkway, Ziplining, N.C. Balloon Festival Beauty abounds everywhere in the mountains of North Carolina and especially in Transylvania County, which boasts more than 250 waterfalls. Oh, then there's this little thing called the Blue Ridge Parkway, one of the most scenic drives you'll find anywhere. For adventure try a zip line experience at one of more than 10 facilities in the Asheville area. Many can be found by visiting www.ziplinerider.com While it's festival season, you'll also find pleasure at the 40th annual N.C. Balloon Festival in Statesville, October 18-20. Most people don't believe it to be a mind-blowing an experience until they actually attend a hot air balloon event. There will be more than 50 in Statesville. Balloons rule in this Carolina town. Snoopy floats up and down as he wiggles his tale. Superman rises to the cloud line. Watching is more than enough; you won't have to be riding through the balloon-filled horizon. CV
