BY JAY BOBBIN Debbi Fields gets to revisit her own start as a food 'Superstar' Helping others on their way to launching their own food brands is bringing back tons of memories for Debbi Fields. The woman who founded Mrs. Fields Cookies in the late 1970s is among those mentoring the contestants on "Supermarket Superstar," Lifetime's current Thursday competition that will give the eventual winner prizes including near-immediate placement of his or her product on the shelves of the A&P supermarket chain and its affiliates. "I was so invigorated by it, it was probably as good for me as it was for the participants who had the chance to win $10,000," Fields says of taping the episodes. "It was just that big of a deal. The folks would start with their pitch and presentation, then we'd move to tasting the product. There were those that were home runs – first bite, unbelievable – then others that I didn't want to put in my mouth, I was so afraid of what I was about to eat." In either case, Fields enjoyed being one of the people to advise the would-be entrepreneurs. "If they chose to listen, they could still strike out if it didn't work. Or if it did work, phenomenal. And then, if they had the product but not the marketing or the branding, to see the evolution of that right before your eyes was fascinating and exciting and exhilarating. "Everybody has the potential," Fields adds from experience, "if they have the dream and the desire to do it." Debbi Fields What are you currently reading? "I'm trying to read 'Atlas Shrugged.' I read a little bit every night, then I fall asleep. And when I walk my dogs, I always like to listen to a book on tape, so I've been listening to 'The Willpower Instinct.' I love anything that focuses us on re-creation. You never settle. It's all about what you're doing today ... not yesterday, but today." What did you have for dinner last night? "My husband was out of town, so I had carrots and hummus to start, then I had a little bit of chili that I mixed with some chicken bouillon and made a soupy base, and then I added some wild rice to it. And I love Tabasco sauce, so I put about four serious intense, shakes of that to it." What is your next project?"I'm working on a new cookbook, 'Debbi Fields' More Than Cookies.' I'm very excited about that, but I still have a long way to go." BEST KEANU REEVES MOVIES "The Matrix" Patrick Swayze (left) and Keanu Reeves 8 Alex Winter (left) and Keanu Reeves BY JAY BOBBIN "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (2008) Reeves' minimalist acting style works well for his turn as Klaatu, the unemotional alien who has a warning for Earth's residents, in this update of the sci-fi classic. "Something's Gotta Give" (2003) A very charming Reeves plays an amorous doctor who romances an older woman (Diane Keaton), a result of his treating a man (Jack Nicholson) who's been wooing her daughter (Amanda Peet). "The Gift" (2000) Reeves is quite effective in an atypical role as a woman's (Hilary Swank) abusive, very rough-around-the-edges husband, one of those suspected by a psychic (Cate Blanchett) of being involved in another woman's disappearance. "The Matrix" (1999) A genuinely iconic Reeves film, this mind-bending sci-fi saga casts him as a computer hacker drawn into an alternate universe where he must fight to save mankind. "Speed" (1994) The action smash that cemented Reeves' stardom casts him as a maverick L.A. cop forced to match wits with a clever extortionist (Dennis Hopper), who's placed a bomb aboard a city bus ... which will explode if it goes slower than 50 mph. "My Own Private Idaho" (1991) Reeves and River Phoenix are stunning in director Gus Van Sant's drama about young hustlers working the streets of Portland, Ore. "Point Break" (1991) As football star-turned-novice FBI agent Johnny Utah, Reeves shows just the right amount of reckless bravado in chasing a gang of bank robbers led by a mystical surfer (Patrick Swayze). "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" (1989) Much of the fun of watching this zany comedy now is seeing how thoroughly unlike his later performances Reeves' work in it is. "Dangerous Liaisons" (1988) Costume drama certainly isn't Reeves' norm, but he holds his own opposite such notables as Glenn Close and John Malkovich in this classic story.
