ELKHARTLAKE.COM | 3 2 SPRING VINTAGE WEEKEND WITH SVRA MAY 16-18 Relive the excitement of Elkhart Lake's historic open-road racing circuits, once raced by the world's top drivers. Discover Dicken's Ditch, Kimberly's Korner, and Schoolhouse Straight, marked with fourteen historical markers to commemorate the big names and the big events that occurred here between 1950 and 1952. Picture hay bales at the corners and thousands of fans cheering as Phil Hill in a C-type Jaguar crosses the finish line, or John Fitch in a Cunningham C4R cruising to victory after 30 laps in front of 100,000 race fans. In all, 238 cars entered the three races held in 1952. These circuits are now listed on the Wisconsin and National Register of Historic Places. In 2006, markers were placed around the race circuits and dedicated at a ceremony where racers John Fitch and Phil Hill were honored guests - more than fifty years after their legendary victories.
