Edward S. Hyman Jr. '65 and Ross R.
Moody '81 were presented with the Texas Exes
Distinguished Alumni Award in November
2023. Brothers Hyman and Moody were
part of a six-person class in 2023 to receive
this prestigious award. The group included a
distinguished female Air Force general and
fighter pilot, a pioneering eye physician and a
football legend.
Hyman earned a BS in engineering in 1967
and later an MBA from MIT. He resides in
New York, where he is Chairman of Evercore
ISI and Vice Chairman of Evercore. In his
acceptance remarks, Hyman credited PIKE as
a critically important part of his college days,
noting many enduring Pike friendships to this
day, and stated a belief that fraternities' best
days are ahead. Hyman has been a generous
benefactor to Beta Mu, and he received the
International Fraternity's Judge Elbert P. Tuttle
Award in 2010.
Moody earned a BBA in finance in 1984 and
later a Harvard MBA. He resides in Austin,
where he is Chairman and CEO of publicly
traded insurer National Western Life Group
Inc. He also serves on the board of the
Moody Foundation, the state's largest private
foundation, which supports higher education and
the arts in Texas, including UT Austin's Moody
College of Communication and its basketball
and entertainment facility Moody Center.
