www.kufiji.org 3 FROM PI DEUTERON TO THE CHIEFS Dr. Scott Mullen '02 on FIJI Experiences, Sports Medicine I n the heart of Wichita, Kansas, a young man found his home away from home within the walls of Phi Gamma Delta. From growing up in Wichita to working as a physician for some of the most prestigious sports organizations in the world, the story of Dr. Scott Mullen '02 is a great representation of the success Brothers can achieve by living the values of Phi Gamma Delta. FRATERNAL DEVELOPMENT Brother Mullen had many connections in the house and always knew Pi Deuteron was going to be the place for him. The moment he walked in the door, he could feel a sense of pride and belonging in the Chapter. One of his favorite moments was when he met his wife at FIJI Islander. Scott's involvement in Phi Gamma Delta did not just foster personal connections but it also instilled significant skills and values. Serving as House Manager during his sophomore and junior years. He developed discipline, hard work, and dedication, traits that would serve him well in his future endeavors. SPORTS MEDICINE Following in his grandfather's footsteps, Dr. Mullen went on to pursue a career in medicine, initially as a general surgeon. His passion for sports and desire to make a difference in athletes' lives, however, led him to specialize in sports medicine and focusing on sports injuries. Dr. Mullen's career path has involved prestigious positions with the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and University of Kansas Athletics. His dedication and expertise played a role in three Super Bowl championships with the Chiefs, marking significant achievements in his medical career. Despite the demands of his profession, Scott still finds time to connect with the Fraternity and maintains friendships with pledge Brothers. He recently visited the Chapter House to talk to Undergraduate Brothers about his career journey, the values it takes to be successful, and some cool stories from his time with the Chiefs. He even brought two of his Super Bowl rings and let the Chapter put them on. "I would have brought all three, but the last one is still getting made." PERSONAL LIFE In his free time, Scott enjoys spending time with his family, working out, and spending time at the lake. He was very proud to share that he has successfully completed two Ironman competitions. Scott's journey from Fraternity Brother to renowned orthopedic surgeon exemplifies the transformative power of Brotherhood, dedication, and a passion for making a difference. Scott brought two of his Super Bowl championship rings to the scholarship dinner on April 10 th . Norris Leadership Awards $400 each Junior – Charlie Howgill '25 Sophomore – Mitch Waldo '26 Freshman – Alex Evans '27 Helen Moore Honor Initiates $250 each Joseph Torrey '27, Jack Barker '27, and Ben Heise '27 Lee Phillips Scholarships $200 each Senior – Joe Guehlstorf '24 Junior – Ty Hall '25 Sophomore – Joe Riley '26 Robert P. Radcliffe Senior Award $250 Cameron Karaba '24 Payne Family Scholarship $2,500 AJ Romero '25 The awards amounted to $5,300, with $2,800 from Kansas Chapter Fund and $2,500 from the Payne Family Fund, both at Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation.
