ALPHA ARTERY Oklahoma Alpha | Oklahoma State University | Spring 2024 A fter coming back from a restful winter break and a great Golden Heart formal in Nashville, on-campus members (a couple are studying abroad in France) started spring strong by inviting guests to speak to the chapter about a variety of topics such as finances, professionalism, accountability, and how to handle alcohol responsibly. Multiple brothers were invited to participate in this year's Carlson Leadership Academy in Oklahoma City to grow in their involvement, leadership, and impact of their specific roles and beyond. They wrapped up a strong Varsity Revue performance with the women of Alpha Delta Pi and participated in Spring Sing with the women of Zeta Tau Alpha as well as celebrated mothers with a denim and diamond-themed Mom's Day. The chapter announced it will be a part of America's Greatest Homecoming with the wonderful women of Gamma Phi Beta. Not only are the members serving the community and being a part of so many great causes, but they also just finished volunteering with the women of Alpha Chi Omega with "Into the Streets," helping clean, mow, paint, and serve dozens of Stillwater residents. Throughout the rest of the semester, the members prepared for the final Greek Discovery Day, where they welcomed incoming freshmen and potential new members, as well as geared up for Safari Week, which consisted of a car wash, volleyball tournament, and concert with proceeds going to our non-profit partner, Boys and Girls Club. Finally, our recruitment team will be hitting the ground running this summer meeting with potential new members and welcoming the new member class of 2024 while we see our president, Jake Broom '26, and freshman, Jackson Hays '27, represent the chapter at the Ruck Leadership Institute in Virginia. It was a great semester with the men having their priorities straight and finishing well academically. They continue to be balanced men of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love. Fraternally, Erik Williams '18 Chapter Counselor On March 25, we had the pleasure of hosting representatives from Beers Aren't Bad, who gave a presentation on alcohol awareness to our chapter. Beers Aren't Bad is an organization that promotes a positive and responsible relationship with alcohol. The presentation advocated for a balanced perspective on alcohol, encouraging responsible consumption and appreciation for the cultural and social aspects of enjoying drinks. Oklahoma Alpha will be co-hosting this event with the ladies of Alpha Delta Pi and are looking to bring Rae Ann Gruver and Evelyn Piazza, who both lost a child due to hazing incidents, to campus in the fall. They regularly speak on campuses, including Kansas State last year and at our leadership training at the SigEp Ruck Leadership Institute in Richmond, Virginia. All Greek chapters as well as the members of athletics and the band will be invited to attend the event, since several hazing incidents across the nation have involved athletes and band members. By hosting this event, our men are demonstrating their leadership across campus. The event is scheduled for August 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wes Watkins Center.
