THE BAZOO Delta Upsilon at Syracuse University • Spring 2024 SU BRAND COLORS (RGB) 721 Comstock, our new house, for now. T his fall, Dikaia Foundation will celebrate the 72nd anniversary of its founding by Syracuse DU alumni. On November 19, 1952, a seasonally mild Wednesday with the outdoor temperature troughing at 11 degrees, Pete Dwyer '32 presided over the inaugural Dikaia board meeting at the Onondaga Hotel, located at the corner of South Warren and East Jefferson Street in downtown Syracuse. From its start, Dikaia's mission has been to aid, encourage, promote, and contribute to the education and general well-being of members of Delta Upsilon Fraternity at Syracuse University. Today, Dikaia's 16-member volunteer board of trustees consists of DUSU alumni from the '70, '80, '90, and post-2016 recolonization vintages. Every December, undergraduates of the chapter apply for merit- and need-based scholarships, with recipients announced and awards distributed the following February. Dikaia has nine scholarships named after notable alumni from 1926 to 1985, including the M. Harold "Pete" Dwyer Scholarship awarded for outstanding academic and personal achievement. Each year, the chapter Executive Board selects an undergraduate brother to represent Dikaia on campus and support the application and awards process. For the 2023-24 academic year, Cole Weintraub '25, a dual Newhouse/Falk student, became our fifth Dikaia Scholar. We were thrilled to host our annual Dikaia awards event at the Syracuse University Life Sciences Complex on February 24, 2024, awarding over $30,000 to 34 highly deserving members of the chapter and for leadership education travel. Presenters at this year's event included Larry Cantor '84, Peter Gaines '79, Rick Holland '83, Ken Hyman '88, Kevin Stein '83, and Oz Street '80. Also in attendance were Brian Burns '85, Mark Linnan '85, and Peter Maescher '90 as well as Hope Barry, spouse of Rick Barry '85, to witness the new award named in his honor. Thank you to all alumni and parents who generously contribute annually to Dikaia. Donations support undergraduate brothers with financial aid, scholarships, and incentive awards. www.dikaia.org Dikaia Tax ID: 16-6044201 Dikaia Holds Annual Awards Event DIKAIA FOUNDATION - SUPPORTING OUR UNDERGRADUATES DIKAIA BY THE NUMBERS 1952 YEAR DIKAIA WAS FOUNDED 16 DIKAIA BOARD MEMBERS 9 ALUMNI- NAMED SCHOLARSHIPS MORE THAN $200,000 DIKAIA AWARDS TO DUSU BROTHERS SINCE 2016 RECOLONIZATION President Zach Weiss '26 Vice President Wiliam Burger '26 VP of Risk Management Jack Lucas '26 VP of External Relations Cole Weintraub '25 VP of Internal Relations Collin Smith '25 VP of Finance Adam Neufeld '26 VP of Associate Member Education Ethan Gunther '24 VP of Recruitment William Broad '26 willmbroad@gmail.com (571) 314-5352 VP of Housing James Moore '26 Secretary Ben Catlin '26 CHAPTER OFFICERS
