Page 28 - Rutherford Weekly BOY BOYD MCDANIEL B o y d McDaniel, 79, of Forest City passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2013. He was the son of the late Hoston and Della McDaniel. Boyd was a native of Rutherford County and a retired weaver from Stonecutter Mills. He was also a member of Florence Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memory are his stepmother Corene McDaniel, son Randy McDaniel and wife Louanne, daughter Robin Selvey, grandchildren; Laura Page, Jeffrey Selvey, and Taylor Selvey, great-grandchildren Lindsay Selvey and Karlie Page, and sisters Marge Horner and Betty McKee. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by grandchildren, Jennifer Selvey and Chad Selvey. Funeral Services were held at Crowe's Mortuary with Rev. Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Florence Baptist Church, 201 S Broadway Street, Forest City, NC 28043. Crowe's Mortuary is serving the family. MILDRED BIGGERSTAFF CAMP M i l d r e d Biggerstaff C a m p , age 98, of Ellenboro, NC, passed a w a y Thursday, August 8, 2013. Mildred was born April 20, 1915 in Rutherford County, NC to the late T.A. Biggerstaff and Ola Mae Harrill Biggerstaff. She worked at Cone Mills for thirty-seven years before her retirement and was a life-long member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. She was very active in the Women's Association at the church and loved to travel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, James William "Buck" Camp; one son, Jimmy Camp; one brother, Oras Biggerstaff and one sister, Mary Kendrick. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is caring for the family. MAX G. CRAWLEY, SR. Max G. Crawley, Sr. of Forest City, NC p a s s e d away August 8, 2013. Max was born April 11, 1936, in Rutherford County, NC, to the late Grady S. Crawley and Celia L. Crawley. The major portion of his working life was spent as a self-employed building contractor. He was a long time member of the Sandy Mush Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Steven Douglas Crawley and one sister, Joyce Crawley Harrill. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Merle West Crawley; his son and daughter-in-law, Max G. Crawley, Jr. (Butch) and Sandra H. Crawley of Forest City, NC; his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa C. Ray and Phillip A. Ray of Oak Hill, Virginia. There are four grandchildren and two great grandsons, Jennifer Canipe and husband, Robert, Justin Crawley, Jeremy Ray and wife Elizabeth, Dustin Ray, Jaden Canipe, and Zachary Ray. He is also survived by four sisters, Elizabeth Tate, Lillian Silvers, and Jackie Price, all of Forest City, NC, and Carol Moser and husband Joe of Seymour, Indiana. Other survivors include one sister-in-law, Barbara W. Wilson and her husband, Boyce Wilson, Jr. Funeral services were conducted at Sandy Mush Baptist Church with Rev. Harrelson Funeral & Cremation Services is serving the Family. DORIS ROSS MARTIN Doris Ross Martin, 87, of Forest City passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2013. She was a native of Rutherford County, a lifelong member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was the daughter of the late W.T. Ross and Josephine Lewis Ross. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Grayson Christopher Martin, Sons C. Shannon Martin and wife Brenda of Rock Hill SC, and Michael J. Martin and wife Dorma Lee of Salisbury NC, grandchildren Jeffrey Ross Martin and wife Christy, Kimberly Martin Bridges, and Brian Richard Martin and wife Natalie, great grandchildren Tyler Bridges, Garrett Bridges, and Braxton Martin. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by siblings Otto Ross, Broadus Ross, Lewis Ross, Louise Rollins, Pauline Carpenter, Alice Fite, and Lorene Thompson. A memorial Service was held at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Revs. Dr. Scott Courtney, Richard Bass and Jim Whitlow officiating. JANE SNYDER BORAH Mrs. Jane S n y d e r Borah formerly of Lake Lure, NC passed a w a y Wednesday August 7, 2013. Mrs. Borah was born in Philadelphia, Pa; was a homemaker and formerly attended St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Tryon, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband John Borah and is survived by a number of family members and friends. A celebration of her life was held at Crowe's Fune e Funeral Chapel in Ruth uthe Rutherfordton, NC with Fathe Father John Eckert officiating. Crowe's Mortuary is serving the family. PEGGY ANN DAVIS KESSLER P e g g y Ann Davis Kessler, 76, of Mooresville, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2013. Peggy was born on August 4, 1937, in Spindale, NC, to Boyd and Kathleen Lawing. After Peggy married Garland (Tommy) Davis, originally from Ellenboro, the two traveled throughout the country where Peggy served as a devoted Air Force wife. When Peggy, Tommy, and their children Michael and Teresa settled in Johnson City, Tennessee, Peggy became very active at Munsey Memorial Methodist Church and in the Johnson City chapter of the Sweet Adelines. Upon Tommy's retirement from the Air Force, he and Peggy moved to Topeka Kansas, St. Louis Missouri, Miles City Montana, and Marion Illinois where Peggy befriended and spread her warmth and love to diverse groups of people from numerous countries and all walks of life. When Tommy passed away in 1986, Peggy moved to St. Louis Missouri, married William Henry ("Hank") Kessler on January 1, 1989, and became the loving grandmother to Jenny Brady Phillips, Ashley Brady Martinez, and Loren Davis. Peggy and Hank moved to Florida where Peggy became VicePresident of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary Unit 137 in Spring Hill/ Brooksville. In 2005, Peggy and Hank moved to Rock Hill, SC where they joined Marine Corps League Detachment 1123, and shortly after Hank passed away in 2007, Peggy moved to Sunrise on Providence in Charlotte, NC. Peggy was a loving sister to Mary Ruth Ayers of Rutherfordton and Bill Ponder of Livonia Michigan. Peggy is survived by Mary Ruth Ayers and her husband James Ayers, by her son Michael Davis, her daughter Teresa Davis, and step-daughter Christine Kessler. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jennifer Davis McCord, Robert Davis, Kenneth Davis, Thursday, August 15-August 21, 2013 Jennifer Brady Phillips, Ashley Brady Martinez, and Loren Davis. Visitation will take place at 10am on Thursday, August 15th and will be immediately followed by a funeral service at 11am. Both will take place at Second Baptist Church, 191 Green Street, Rutherfordton, NC, 28139. Burial will follow at Mt Vernon Cemetery. Lewis, age 65, of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013. Janie was born January 4, 1948 in Rutherford County to the late Elvert H. Burgess and Lucille Ruppe Burgess. She worked in textiles most of her life and also for Plastic Packaging for several years. She was a dedicated member of the Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed cooking for her family. She is survived by her husband of forty-seven years, Ed Junior Lewis; three sons, Richard Lewis and wife, Sheila of Forest City, Rodney Lewis of Morganton, NC and Scott Lewis and wife, Beverly of Rutherfordton; one sister, Luann Honeycutt of Mooresboro. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the Church of the Nazarene in Forest City with Reverend Dale Austin officiating. JANET LYNN BAILEY PADGETT Janet Lynn B a i l e y Padgett, age 57, of Bostic, NC, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013. Janet was born December 18, 1955 in Rutherford County, NC to the late J.L. Bailey and Carolyn Annette Roberts Bailey of Forest City. Janet worked in textiles most of her life and was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church. She enjoyed puzzle books, watching television and reading. She especially loved spending time with her family. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Amy Nicole Padgett; one sister and by one half-brother and one half-sister. Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband, Marcus Henry Padgett; two sons Marcus Brandon Padgett of Forest City and Jeremy Ryan Padgett of Bostic; five brothers and sisters and six half-brothers and sisters. She is also survived four grandchildren and a longtime family friend, Noah Blackwell of Bostic. A graveside service will be conducted at Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery and will be announced on a later date. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is caring for the family. JO ANN CURRY MATHEWS PALMER Jo Ann C u r r y Mathews Palmer, age 60, of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013. Jo Ann was born April 5, 1953 in Rutherford County, NC, to the late James Curry I and Dorothy Mathis Curry. She graduated from High School in Gulfport, Mississippi and held an Associate's Degree from Isothermal Community College. Jo Ann worked many years as a Graphic Artist in the Textile Industry. Besides her passion for art, she also enjoyed gardening and cooking for all of her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Palmer. Survivors include her daughter, Emily Bowers and husband, Scott of Rutherfordton; two sisters, Trudy Nikolas and husband, Steve of Corinth, Texas and Janice Greene and husband, James of Rutherfordton; one brother, James Curry II and wife, Julia of Boiling Springs, SC. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Fiona, Gideon and Rio Bowers. No formal services are planned.
