Friday at 10 he will read at a "Meet The Author," event at the Norris Public Library on Main Street in Rutherfordton and Saturday from 11 until 2, he will be reading, signing books, and hanging out with readers at Hill's Hardware. Jobe grew up in Rutherford County and graduated from East Rutherford. He was a minister at Pat Jobe, Rutherford County Tanner's Grove United Methodist native and writer. Church for 10 years and worked for Rutherford Weekly. He also delivered pizzas for Domino's on Broadway in Forest City. When he lived in Marion, NC, he worked for both The McDowell Express and the McDowell News, where he won six writing awards from the NC Press Association and the School Bell Award for writing about education from the NC Association of Educators. His books have sold over 10,000 copies. He spent 17 years as a volunteer commentator with WNCW in Spindale. WNCW news director, Pam Bunch, will interview Jobe at 8:50 Thursday morning. His aunt, Anita Wilkie, of Forest City was a major influence in his writing life. Wilkie's brother, the late Allen Jobe was Forest City Postmaster and economic developer for Rutherford County. He was Jobe's father and his mother was a retired R.S. Central teacher, the late Ruth Jobe. "Mama chaired the library board the year Forest City voted to build a library. My brother, Bill, and I handed out leaflets as kids to support the library. Books were always around and inspired me to write and tell stories. I really hope folks will come out Friday and Saturday in Rutherfordton. I appreciate the library and Hill's Hardware for this opportunity." Jobe is currently the minister of the Greenville Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Greenville, S.C.
