I recall being so excited to attend the University of Missouri and become a part of the Mizzou community in 1984. I was drawn to Greek life because I wanted to get involved on campus while gaining a large friend group. I fell in love with Gamma Phi Beta during the funniest and most clever recruitment skit ever! After watching my soon-to-be pledge mom, Lisa Cornett Schmitz '84, on stage, I knew I was in the right place. As an undergraduate, I was our pledge class vice president. During my sophomore and junior years, I served as alumnae chairman, where I helped produce newsletters like this one! (Shoutout to the Alpha Delta Hilites!) After graduating in 1988, I tried to stop by the chapter house whenever I visited Columbia. I often thought of volunteering, but family life and work kept me busy and there never seemed to be enough time. But that changed three years ago when my pledge sister, Shelley Pulliam Roither '85, reached out about serving on the AHC Board. It was exactly the nudge that I needed to get involved! Since then, I've had the pleasure of getting to know many current members in my role as AHC treasurer. I am amazed by the sisterhood's commitment to our chapter. The undergraduates understand what it means to carry on a legacy with grace and still have plenty of fun! They preserve Alpha Delta's traditions through service, leadership, learning, and strong membership representation across campus. Gamma Phi Beta's recruitment secured the top retention spot among all Panhellenic chapters in 2023—a testament to their dedication and effectiveness! I encourage anyone who has lost touch with the chapter to come visit the house. You are always welcome at Alpha Delta. Also, following Alpha Delta Chapter (Missouri-Columbia Gamma Phi Beta Alumnae Group) on Facebook is an easy way to stay connected and informed. Gamma Phi Beta is one of my most precious life experiences. I grew and learned so much during my four years as an undergraduate, and the chapter provided me with so many lifelong friends whom I cherish dearly. You all know who you are—my True and Constant! I cannot imagine my life without our Core Values guiding me and without the sisterhood I gained through Alpha Delta. Athena lives in St. Louis, Missouri, where she balances spending time with family and friends and a full-time career. Her husband, Bill, is a Sigma Chi from Missouri State; her son, David, is a Delta Upsilon at Bradley University; and her daughter, Natalie '20, is an Alpha Delta legacy. In their spare time, the family cheers for the St. Louis Blues and Mizzou football and travels to the mountains whenever they can. 2 ALPHA DELTA HILITES A lpha Delta Chapter kicked off the spring semester stronger than ever! We welcomed new members, got involved on campus, and led successful events for our philanthropy. Although we've accomplished so much, we will end this year on a bittersweet note as we bid farewell to our seniors. Our continuous open bid process welcomed 10 new members, and we are thrilled that our chapter continues to grow. COB 2024 welcomed the most new members we have ever had during spring recruitment! This year's Grilled Cheese with the GPhi Bs philanthropy event raised over $8,000 for Girls on the Run. This late-night dinner is one of our biggest philanthropy events of the year. We welcomed students to the house from 9 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. as we served grilled cheese, snacks, and desserts. The lively and energetic atmosphere brought in a steady stream of visitors throughout the night! As we busily recruited more women to our chapter and planned successful philanthropy events, 116 members were able to maintain a GPA over 3.5! We also participated in Mizzou's Greek Week, where we won the recreational basketball tournament against other fraternities and sororities, participated in the second-largest blood drive in the nation, and donated time to growing the bonds of Greek life across campus. Thirteen of our members are also involved in Golden Girls, the dance team at Mizzou, and they traveled to Ireland this semester to march in a St. Patrick's Day parade. They were awarded the "Best Overall Band" honor in the parade! As the school year comes to an end, Gamma Phi Beta reflects on a successful semester filled with many laughs and memories. As summer break approaches, we know we will miss seeing our sisters every day.
