Page 2 Reviving a Brotherhood R yan Seaver '07 did not plan to join a fraternity at the University of Colorado, but he related with many of the members he met during The Balanced Man Scholarship application process. "I learned more over time about what really makes Sigma Phi Epsilon special and not like other fraternities." Inspired by others' desire to make an impact, Ryan served as a founding father during Colorado Alpha's prior restart. "The obvious potential with Colorado Alpha is apparent. In the end, who wouldn't want to be a part of Colorado Alpha? If not, you felt like you were missing out on something special." Continuing the Chapter's legacy, Ryan served in multiple executive roles, first as the vice president of membership development and then as president. "I was fortunate to meet and work with other talented brothers who taught me about life, brotherhood, and the importance of continual improvement," he said. "Our goal was to improve Colorado Alpha and make it a better organization than when we first joined." Ryan's favorite SigEp memories come from unique brotherhood events like the Rock Challenge for collectively hiking the Flatirons at Chautauqua Park or Carlson Leadership Academy trips with other chapters to Salt Lake City or San Francisco. He also enjoyed the annual Chapter retreats and formals, CU football games, and the Chapter's intramural sports teams. Ryan shares that he wouldn't be the person he is today without SigEp, and he is grateful for everyone that he has met and has been privileged to know during his experience. Now that Colorado Alpha has approval to return to campus, Ryan is excited for what lies ahead. "There is a strong group of Colorado Alpha alumni who are dedicated to a successful return to campus," he said. "We hope to recreate the ideal opportunity in Boulder to foster brotherhood and build balanced leaders." To potential refounding fathers, Ryan says, "Pelé said it best, 'Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do,'" he said. "From our Creed, a good member is loyal to the Fraternity. In order to be loyal to Sigma Phi Epsilon, you must love it. In order to love it, we must strive constantly to make it worthy of our love. The importance is the opportunity that lies ahead and what we choose to do with it." Ryan lives and works in Colorado. He is the business development director at Frndly TV, a live-streaming TV service provider based in Denver. He and his SigEp brothers continue to dedicate time for each other as groomsmen in wedding parties, growing family activities, and the occasional reunion in Boulder. "Please let me know if there is ever anything else that I can help support for brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon and Colorado Alpha." You can connect with Ryan at ryan.d.seaver@gmail.com.
