MU CHAPTER OF DELTA KAPPA EPSILON | COLGATE UNIVERSITY | VOL. LX, NO. I SPRING 2024 Yon Clarion Bell NEWSLETTER OF THE MU OF DKE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, INC. CELEBRATING OUR BROTHERS AT THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS New Scholarship Fundraising Campaign Announced A round 100 Mu alumni (and a few brave dates) gathered at the Yale Club on February 10 for our annual Scholarship Awards. It was a memorable evening, especially because several of the recipients came down from Hamilton and were in attendance to receive their awards. The high academic achievements of this year's recipients were very impressive and well-received by those in attendance. It was great to see huge enthusiasm for the brotherhood from the young alumni base, as most of the alumni in attendance graduated from Colgate in the past 10 years. Mu is very much alive and thriving! The Foundation's Scholarship Committee reviewed the submitted applications and awarded $40,000 to the following recipients: Will Churchill '24, Emmet Santry '25, Matt Freund '26, Max Boubin '24 (though Mr. Boubin won't receive his check until we receive his faculty recommendation), Justin Ordway '24, George Wilson '25, Sawyer Brown '25, and Matt Leopold '25. These scholarships have proven to be a vital lifeline to undergraduates and are key to our continued success as an organization. It has become clear over the past decade that this scholarship initiative is our signature program as an active and recognized alumni organization that continues to gain new members every year. Importantly, during the event we announced a $2 million scholarship fundraising campaign with a goal of securing ten $200,000 endowed scholarships. The ultimate goal is to have a scholarship endowment that will sustain the awarding of around $100,000 in undergraduate scholarships on an annual basis to ensure we continue our support for these deserving undergraduates. Over $150,000 has been committed toward the first of these 10 scholarships, The Ellis-Talling Award, named in memory of brothers Lane Ellis and Greg Talling from the class of 2005 (146). If you would like to endow a named scholarship (either by yourself or with a group of brothers) or contribute what you can toward the general scholarship fund, please reach out to me. Additional information on our scholarships can be found at mudke.org/scholarships.
