The Hoop of Steel Kansas Beta | Kansas State University | Spring 2024 Pressing On to New Heights SETTING NEW GOALS In the fall edition of The Hoop, I referenced the 2025 Conclave to be held in Tampa and that our Chapter has committed to being on stage to accept our ninth Buc Cup. When our Chapter representatives left San Antonio, we were given a written report on how we needed to improve to be in contention. The executive committee focused on those requirements and the goals established at the retreat hosted by Greg Pestinger '86 and put together a worthy application. The Chapter now boasts a more geographically diverse membership, which should also push us further toward restoring the strong values represented by the Sigma Phi Epsilon name. ALUMNI INVOLVEMENT We continue to receive great feedback from volunteers who are willing to help with mentoring. This initiative will be a focus for Chapter Counselor Lucas Renz '18 over the summer and into the next school year. Encouraging alumni to reconnect is a priority for us, and mentoring is a great first step in getting to know the current members and determining if the Chapter is a cause you would like to financially support. If you are interested in impacting the life of a SigEp undergraduate, please check out the "Volunteer" link on our Chapter website or send an email to me at dirkdaveline@gmail.com or Lucas at luke.renz27@gmail.com. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT I have been directly involved with Kansas Beta since my graduation in 1987, but the time and treasure I have committed to SigEp are not sufficient to meet the current needs of the Chapter. We need more alumni to give their time, whether that be through involvement in the AVC or becoming a mentor. We need more alumni to contribute financially to debt repayment, scholarship development, and maintenance reserve. And most importantly, we need these now! WHY GIVE? We addressed the bathrooms last summer, but we now need to replace 20-year-old pieces of furniture and refresh some of the common areas. Our programming and reputation are both climbing back to equal the top fraternities, but the three areas of financial need are still lagging. Please consider reaching out to me or any member of the AVC to ask, "How can I help?" or "Help me understand more what the Fraternity needs." THANK YOU, ALUMNI GIVERS The last campaign was in 2000-04, so we have 20-plus years to catch up on our financial giving. This is not a formal campaign, but rather a continuation of the campaign we started three years ago that still has some pledges outstanding. To the brothers who made pledges, thank you! And if you have paid them in full, bless you! We encourage every brother who valued the time they spent at 1015 Sunset to make a gift today. Thanks for your support and love of Kansas Beta! Fraternally, Dirk Daveline '87 AVC President HOW TO GI VE HOW TO GI VE Mail a check to: Sigma Phi Epsilon Alumni PO Box 427 Manhattan, KS 66505 To make an automatic payment or a larger gift, reach out to dirkdaveline@gmail.com.
