T he fall 2022 edition of Kansas Sig summarized the September 2022 memorandum of understanding between the fraternity and KU. Unless the deadlines in the MOU are modified, there cannot be an attempt to form or recruit members for a prospective Sigma Chi chapter prior to August 1, 2025, and the earliest date on which a Sigma Chi chapter can reoccupy the chapter house is August 1, 2026. Alumni Involvement Although the date is over a year away, we need brothers to step up now to serve on an Alumni Advisory Board that will work with the New Chapter Development Committee. With the help of our alumni, we will be ready to recruit members by August 1, 2025, to establish a colony that will resurrect Alpha Xi Chapter. The colonization and rechartering process generally begins with a declaration of intent from an interest group of young men who agree to adhere to the Jordan Standard and the everyday values of Sigma Chi: friendship, justice, and learning. In turn, this interest group must obtain letters from fraternity officers, fraternity alumni, and KU to support their quest to recharter Alpha Xi. The Alumni Advisory Board will work closely with NCDC to assist the interest group in meeting a defined set of milestones for the rechartering process, which can sometimes take longer than a year. Will You Help Us Rebuild? We need brothers to step up now to serve on the Rechartering Committee and an Alumni Advisory Board to work with NCDC to start the recolonization process. We want to plan now so we can hit the ground running by August 1, 2025, and move the interest group of young men into the chapter house in August 2026. Rather than waiting to be asked, please volunteer now for this important role by contacting one of us today. Together, we can rebuild Alpha Xi stronger than ever.
