A Love for Beta Sigma C inda Zimmack Terry '76 joined Sigma Kappa in a large class of 80 initiates and loved how unique the members were. "I found our incredible diversity of thought, experiences, talent, and epic enthusiasm contagious." Cinda and her Beta Sigma sisters made memories for life, whether they were playing pranks or euchre, or winning U-Sing. Today, Cinda remains connected with most of her pledge class, and she and six others have continued to support each other, celebrated many Homecomings together, and text on birthdays and during football and basketball seasons. Serving the Sisterhood In 2011, long-serving board member Susan Hogle Woodward '76 reached out to Cinda seeking new House Corporation Board members as major plans to renovate the house were underway. "As a close friend and as a past collegiate president, I felt a strong sense of duty to support my sister and our house," she shared. Cinda became president in 2013 and worked to provide vision, management, and fundraising for the chapter house for 80 women. "Through our shared love for Beta Sigma, six ordinary women accomplished extraordinary things. I am proud of the accomplishments achieved by our 2013-17 board, which further secured our financial success, enhanced our home's physical environment, and won three national housing awards." Dedicated to Design Growing up, Cinda embraced the great outdoors and loved creating art and solving puzzles. Her parents encouraged creativity, curiosity, and a strong sense of community. In her career, Cinda has won national awards and designed everything from jails to higher education, McDonald's to 5-star restaurants, and remote healthcare projects in Haiti to surgical centers in New York. "But Beta Sigma has been my forever labor of love project," she shared. "I take my role as Beta Sigma's interior architect seriously, preserving our home's history while keeping it vibrant and relevant for our future." Cinda is especially proud of the Bum Room! "With limited funds and time, I was asked to select new, durable finishes, maximize seating, and utilize existing furnishings where possible to create a flexible, multi- functional space to reflect our personality and celebrate Sigma Kappa." With help from the handyman, the project came together in six weeks, with Cinda traveling from Indianapolis to Purdue three to four times a week to manage installations, spend time creating new graphic art, and hand-paint existing composite frames and the old north stair spindles. The updated fireplace became the focal point, complemented with symbolic new art and dramatic black and gold accent paint. Enjoying Life and Giving Back In her free time, Cinda enjoys outdoor activities in the sun, summers on Lake Wawasee with her husband, Andy, hiking in the mountains with her son, Chance, acting as a DJ with her friends, and preserving family history through her creative art. She has been honored to serve on five non- profit boards over 30 years and enjoys teaching senior-level interior design courses part-time at Purdue University in Indianapolis. "It makes my heart happy to reconnect with those who touched my life, listen to long- ago stories, and make new memories. Messages like these below bring tears to my eyes and express how grateful I feel to have sisters for life that will always be there." "What a gift to be together. I feel so lucky to relive the excitement and remind myself of the magic," received from Kathy Fanning Bugge '76. "Thank you for teaching me that sisterhood goes beyond just the women that currently live on 427 Russell Street, but rather it is every woman that has lived in it before and will in the future," received from Gianna Imbarrato '21 after Beta Sigma's 75th anniversary. Cinda and the late Betty Finger Vostinari '51, beloved Beta Sigma advisor and Cinda's mentor, who was one of the first women structural engineers at Purdue.
