INDIANA GAMMA CHAPTER Thank You To our 2023 M2M Donors A s a freshman at IU, Andrew knew what he wanted from a fraternity: a place where he could have a positive impact while making lifelong friends. His grandfather was an alumnus of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and when Andrew learned that Indiana Gamma had just returned to campus a few years ago, he saw the potential to help it grow. Andrew's goals lined up with some valuable advice he received from Indiana Gamma alumni: "The fraternity was there before you joined and will exist after you," he recalled. "Your job is to create a better experience for those coming after you, making the most of your own experience in the process. I think that resonated with me—both at ΣAE and as I looked at my career path." Learning to Lead Serenades, road trips, Homecoming, and the Little 500 stand out among Andrew's many great memories with his brothers. The chapter also provided excellent leadership opportunities when he served as vice president and later president. In those roles, Andrew learned how to manage different people in a group and work with them on their goals. "I learned a lot from the other guys in our chapter and greatly valued their input and advice," he said. "To this day, I still consider my ΣAE presidency the most impactful experience I had at IU." Andrew now lives in Houston, Texas, and has worked for L.E.K. Consulting since his graduation. Working with clients on their strategic goals has been a challenging but rewarding experience— one, Andrew believes, ΣAE prepared him for. "You often have multiple stakeholders who want different things, and communicating effectively with active listening is crucial. Those are skills I developed through my leadership opportunities at Indiana Gamma." Lasting Bonds Andrew and his wife enjoy exploring restaurants in the Houston area as well as spending time with their dog. He's also stepped up his golf game, as moving from Chicago to Houston afforded him more chances to play. Andrew keeps up with brothers from his era and was honored to have several pledge brothers in his wedding (and vice versa); he hopes to rekindle more of those relationships soon. "Joining a fraternity, and ΣAE specifically, was one of the best decisions I ever made," he said. "There are very few chances to build that type of bond and experience the benefits of membership. While these relationships evolve over time, the underlying values and principles of the brotherhood make these friendships truly rewarding. It's just something I'm thankful I experienced."
