Sunrise St. Randy 928-216-9963 BRENDA: Tues & Sat. 11am Black Rock RV (behind clubhouse) Poi Spinning for Seniors Classes Poi is a ball on a cord (or in Quartzsite, it's rice in sock) that you spin in circles around your body. Sound simple? It is! And it's also super fun, affordable, and scientifi - cally proven to help your brain and body feel amazing. It is believed that Poi originally came from the Maori of New Zealand. Today, poi continues to play an important role in Maoridom and across the globe as a form of performance, play, and fi tness and now in Quartzsite, too! Last year, Quartzsite resident Sha- nana Rain Golden-Bear became qualifi ed as a Poi For Seniors Certi- fi ed SpinPoi Instructor from Dr. Kate Riegle van West from New Zealand. Dr. Kate Riegle completed her PhD in the health benefi ts of poi at the University of Auckland. Poi has the perfect mix of physical and cogni- tive elements to keep your brain and body engaged. It's playful. It's rhyth- mic. It's challenging (yet achiev- able!) Oh, expect some giggles, too! And it's backed by rigorous scientifi c evidence: a clinical trial found that after just one month of poi practice, participants improved their grip strength, balance, and attention. Classes are held each Monday at 10:30am at Quartzsite Senior Center, 40 Moon Mountain Ave. Classes are donation based with $1 minimum to the Senior Center. Poi socks will be provided for your use. Sitting and standing movements will be taught. For more information visit www.QuartzsitePoi.com or call Rain at 928-916-4235. Free Smoke Alarms & Fire Safety Education Yuma Proving Ground Highway 95 Land Withdrawal Draft Legislative Environmental Impact Statement for Requested Public Land Withdrawal in Vicinity of Highway 95, Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona The U.S. Army (Army) Yuma Proving Ground (YPG) has prepared a Draft Legislative Environmental Impact Statement (LEIS) analyzing the environmen- tal impacts associated with the Army's withdrawal request of approximately 22,000 acres of public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management as an addition to YPG near Yuma, Arizona. The requested addition would be for an air delivery testing safety buffer for the existing drop zones within the current YPG range boundary. This request must be approved by Congress. The Army will be seeking comments from the public once the Draft LEIS has been made available. An overview of the LEIS will be presented at two virtual public hearings. Dates and times will be announced on the project website. Go to https://ypg-environmental.com/highway-95-land-withdrawal- leis/ and click on the Public Meetings tab for information about the meetings and to access the link and phone number for the meetings. The Draft LEIS will be made available for review on the project website or at: • Yuma County Main Library, 2951 South 21st Drive, Yuma, AZ 85364 • Quartzsite Public Library, 465 N. Plymouth Ave., Quartzsite, AZ 85346 The public may submit comments on the LEIS via one of the following means: • Email: usarmy.ypg.imcom.mbx.nepa@army.mil • Mail: Daniel Steward, Environmental Sciences Division, U.S. Army Garrison YPG, 301 C St. Bldg. 307, Yuma, AZ 85365 • Website: https://ypg-environmental.com/highway-95-land-withdrawal-leis The Arizona Department of Rev- enue (DOR) reminds taxpayers that short-term residential rentals are considered lodging rental stays for less than 30 days. The income from short-term rental stays is subject to Arizona transaction privilege tax (TPT). If, for example, an Ari- zona property owner is only renting their residence for gem shows, they will need a seasonal Arizona TPT license. They may also need a busi- ness license for the city where the residence is located, which is differ- ent from a TPT License. Taxpayers should contact the spe- cifi c city for the business license, as the DOR does not issue city busi- ness licenses. A seasonal TPT li- cense is obtained from the DOR's website and choosing the seasonal fi ling frequency option on the ap- plication. In addition, a property owner/operator is required to in- clude the TPT license number on any advertising associated with the short-term rental.
