The fi lm crew is on a road trip from Los Angeles to Mi- ami, interviewing children and adults along the way. The documentary will be shown on VPRO, which often col- laborates with other European broad- casting organizations such as WDR, the BBC, and Arte. Smit was in Quartzsite last month with Israel Lewites of Nicaragua, the poorest country in South America. Part of the project will benefi t the or- phan children of Nicaragua as they are collecting donations along their trav- els. Quartzsite answered the call with boxes of children's toys and supplies dropped off at Reader's Oasis. Paul Winer, owner, donated over 500 chil- dren's books to the Nicaraguan chil- dren. The children visiting the book- store were able to choose books to take home with them as a remembrance of the experience. "The children really took to Steph," Winer said. "It was such a pleasure to have the youth in the store." The fi lm crew will personally deliver the dona- tions to the children in Nicaragua after fi lming is complete. Winer said, "Thank you, Quartzsite for all your donations!"
