F ive years ago, I accepted the privilege and responsibility of Lambda House Director. The job description was vague on purpose, with the goal that the candidate would balance experience and expertise with the ever-changing needs of the students and desires of the alumni. It turns out that professional development is the "sweet spot" for my 10 hours per week. It is what our students need, our alumni "wish they'd had," and where my expertise lies. The young men come to Lambda with tremendous work ethic and goals built from their limited experience. My job is to help them develop tools to achieve those goals. I focus on two areas: job seeking and professional etiquette. As usual, CFANS Job and Career Fair was held the third week of school. We wrote résumés, learned how to successfully engage industry representatives, then moved with intention to find internships and jobs. My sincere thanks to the four alumni who participated in our alumni networking event in preparation for the career fair: Lucas Sjostrom #1645, Matt Prigge #1255, Murry Ressler #1187, and Alex Krueger #1807. They put students through the paces, but students responded with gratitude and success! Can You Be One of 13? I am still trying to connect each Lambda undergraduate with an alumni mentor. Thank you to the 12 alumni who have signed up so far; I need 13 more men willing to help. The commitment is, of course, what you make it. Give a little, maybe get a little; give a lot and I can assure you, you will get a lot. I often think I learn more from these young men than they learn from me. This semester, Caden Carlson #1858 gave me my first tour of a Minnesota farm. Visiting the Carlson Dairy Farm in Pennock was an incredible experience for me. It opened my eyes to the love of and loyalty to the 132-year-old family farm. I invite you to join us for a meal or event and to take the step: enrich your life and that of a student by becoming a mentor. You're more qualified than you think. Happy fall! Sincerely, Teri Gustafson (Mrs. G) House Director (651) 334-7361 Lambda's 50-year initiates at Founder's Day 2023.
