3 Susan Massaro Middle School Math Susan taught for 13 years on the island of Kauai at a school similar to Seabury. After substituting for a short time at Seabury, she was encouraged to come out of retirement to join the faculty full time. She and her husband, James, moved to Lawrence in 2022 and have a small farm south of town where they plan to grow fruits and vegetables and enjoy a quiet life. Most of Susie's free time has been spent getting moved into their new home on the property, but when she does have spare time, she enjoys reading, spending time with family here in town, and visiting family who live elsewhere. Susie and James have three grown children and eight grandchildren. Krista Meisch Spanish Krista is a dedicated educator with a diverse background in teaching. She has taught both in the United States and most recently in Barcelona, Spain. Her specialization is Spanish education, but she has also taught preschool, fourth grade, and middle school English. She has a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by non-native speakers and is dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all. She is interested in bilingual education and using creative techniques so that her students can achieve proficiency in Spanish. Her two boys, Noah (11) and Jack (9), are her world, and they will be joining her at Bishop Seabury soon. In her free time, Krista loves running and reading. She is also passionate about her second home: Gelida, Barcelona, Spain. Katy Steinbacher Science Holding degrees in civil engineering from the University of Kansas, Katy is a registered Professional Engineer with over 20 years of experience in the engineering industry, managing and mentoring students and young professionals. She has also served as an elementary and middle school science and engineering classroom teacher. Katy is passionate about the absolute necessity of a strong foundation in S.T.E.M. disciplines, and she is committed to ensuring that all young people, especially those historically underserved and underrepresented in S.T.E.M., have access to high-quality S.T.E.M. experiences. She shares, "Every kid is a natural born scientist, engineer, and explorer. I believe that by allowing our students to engage with science and engineering in a fun, hands-on, exploratory manner, we will help guide them to their own unique discoveries—epiphanies that will eventually enable them to successfully meet the challenges facing our world." MEET THE NEW STAFF! S eabury's 2023 Homecoming kicked off on Friday, September 15, with the Boys Varsity Soccer game against Maranatha. The inaugural Seabury Golf Cart Parade was a huge success; the students really came out with their best efforts to decorate their grade's golf cart! The sophomores won with their "Minions" float, followed by the seniors' "America," and in third place, the juniors with their "Mystery Machine." Bishop Seabury Academy Parents hosted the traditional festivities following the parade and game with a dunk tank, games, walking tacos, and ice cream. We can't wait until next year! A Hole-In-One Celebration Homecoming 2023 Brings Fun New Tradition Students show their Homecoming spirit!
