Chris chose neither, deciding to try something different. He met with his friend Randy Hanscom '85, who introduced Chris to some of his Sigma Chi friends. "I thought it was a pretty good crew—and it was!" Chris and his Gamma Sigma brothers loved to work hard and play hard; the latter included their goofy blazer and tie uniforms at football games or good-natured shenanigans around the chapter house. As chapter president, Chris gained invaluable lessons in leading an organization. He didn't always get things right, but he always learned from those experiences. "It was great exposure to principles of leadership that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise." ose principles have served Chris well in his decades as CEO of SEPCO (Sealing Equipment Products Co. Inc.). Chris took the helm unexpectedly at age 29 when his father suddenly passed away, and it's been his life's work ever since. "It's been a great journey that has shown me many new places and things," he said of his work at the Birmingham-based company. Over the years, Chris has enjoyed developing new strategies with his team and seeing them take shape; this includes strategic acquisitions and moving into new business sectors, including aerospace products. rough it all, Chris is thankful for his lessons from both Sigma Chi and Auburn's Harbert College of Business. "Sigma Chi showed me that I wanted to be part of a team—at the center of things, making plans, and being involved as those plans went forward." Chris has kept up with several brothers from his Gamma Sigma years. ("Probably need to do a better job of it, though!") He's also become an avid cyclist, and as a recent empty nester, he hopes to spend even more time on his bike. His advice to younger brothers: "Be open to meeting all kinds of people and developing new relationships." You can connect with Chris at chrisw@sepcousa.com. Let's Ask the New Members! Why Sigma Chi? Every brother was extremely welcoming." –Nikolas Mack "I wanted to be a part of something bigger than just myself. From the beginning, I could tell all the brothers get along, and they are here to form meaningful relationships." –Jack Irish "I joined to find a community of like-minded men. I sought friendship and opportunities for growth, and I believe that I found both here. I love my new brothers!" –P.J. Dichiara "Coming from out of state, I wanted a brotherhood that could help me adjust to the school. Sigma Chi has given me that and many lifelong friendships." –Christopher Kelly
