New this year was a rodeo from Broken Slash P Rodeo Com- pany, of Casa Grande, includ- ing riding bulls and sheep. Returning this year, the Harry Luge Band, a down to earth, high energy singer/songwrit- er, entertained to the crowd. The event was a fundraiser for Quartzsite Rotary. VFW Post 769 provided Flag Cer- emony, and young Josie Sam, of Parker, lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The Arizona Cen- tennial Committee of Quartz- site held a Penny Auction, raising funds for the finale in February. Organizer Monica Timberlake said, "We all really had alot of fun. LAUNDROMAT Open Daily 5AM Showers $6 The Gathering Place of Quartzsite for Good Food, Rodeo big hit at Quartzsite Country Bash by Joanne Winer The Shell Station at the corner of Hwy 95 and B-10 was really crowded this week for the biweekly Cruise-In, and the reason for all the children coming out with their parents this time was another bicycle giveaway. On Oct. 2nd a racing bike was given away in a special drawing there, and so many kids were disap- pointed that they didn't win that everyone there took note and said, "Why can't we get together and get more bikes donated so more kids can win one too?" Many of the car enthusiasts who were there that night offered to donate a bike, and when some of the businesses and other individuals started coming forward, it became clear that there were so many generous people in town, even though the economy has been really bad. Before they knew it, 24 brand new bikes were brought to the Shell Station to be given out at the Cruise-In on October 15th. Hundreds of people showed up, many with kids, some with other items for door prizes for the adults, and all of them very touched to see the faces of the kids as their tickets were drawn. Not everyone got a bike this time, but you never know what might happen in the future--everyone was so thrilled to get their new bikes, and some kids had never had a bike before, so that made it especially touching to those watching. A big thank you to everyone who helped make this such a great time for the kids, especially for their generosity in donating the bikes.
