DELTA CHI page 2 M atthew Bunker '98 was introduced to Delta Chi by Mike Dichiser '95, who reached out during his second semester on campus. "Trice Alford '96, Mark Alley '95, and Jim Demaree '95 taught me that Delta Chi was dedicated to being a fraternity for all the right reasons. Everyone was engaged, cared for one another, and represented a real brotherhood." Matt's era was an exciting time in chapter history. "We were growing and working toward chartering with the support of the original chapter from the '70s," he recalled. "Because we didn't have a house, all our time and events together were well-attended, and we all looked forward to them. Anything Delta Chi was the highlight of your day or week. Whether it was a chapter meeting at the Union or a gathering at someone's apartment, the impact from that time carries significant weight today." Matt wanted joining Delta Chi to be 100% his son's decision. "I didn't want to influence it in any way (but secretly hoped it would happen!). It's another layer of bonding beyond just father and son and something we now uniquely share in our family. Getting to surprise him and pin him at initiation was icing on the cake! Luke Bunker '26 ultimately chose Delta Chi because of the focus on academics and the way the members interacted with one another. "They had one of the highest GPAs on campus, and I could tell all the guys had an academic- focused attitude. This was a group of guys who genuinely cared about one another." "It's cool to think how my dad and I have experienced and are experiencing a lot of the same things, just years apart," said Luke. "We love to look back on some of the things he's kept from his college days; it has definitely brought us closer. I also love going to the alumni events and meeting some of the Delta Chis from his time!" Matt is relieved that the chapter is still in capable and dedicated hands. "There's so much similarity to our chapter in the '90s but with an even greater level of excellence. The young men are leaders on campus, killing it with grades, and repeating their successes in a way that solidifies Delta Chi at Kansas State for years to come." According to Luke, the brothers have already impacted his college experience, even in just one year. "I have met lifelong friends and grown as a leader and person. I love how everyone in the chapter is always there for each other, whether it be to jump-start a car, help with homework, or just hang out on a Saturday night." Matt and Luke continue to strengthen their Delta Chi connections. "I'm still in touch with a lot of the Salina guys," said Matt. "Social media also helps many of us stay involved." Through the fraternity, Luke is growing in leadership and service. "We are very active on campus and in the community," he said. "We hope to carry on the Delta Chi legacy for years to come at K-State and strive to improve all aspects of the chapter daily." Matt married his college sweetheart, Betsy, right after graduation. "We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary this past July!" The couple has two other children, Blake and Lily, and the family lives in Olathe, Kansas.
