3 E ta Chapter continues to build on previous years' success as we grow and develop into brothers who fulfill the ideals of our fraternity. Daily life is a joy in the newly renovated chapter house, especially under the leadership of our dear house director, Nancy McRight, as well as the members of the advisory board and house corporation. Speaking of growth, we initiated a wonderful class of 80 members this fall! After a five- week pledgeship program under the guidance of Magisters Will Johnson '24 and Cyrus Manning '24, the initiation ceremony was a joyous occasion with incredible alumni turnout. A special thanks is also owed to advisory board member Pat Brown '82 for his involvement in the pledgeship and initiation process. The chapter is excited to integrate these new members into Eta Chapter as they become fully involved in our philanthropy events and other programs. This year, Eta is working to repeat and expand on the wonderful success of the inaugural Thomas Mayo 5K, which we held last spring and raised $85,000 for the Thomas Mayo Lab. This excellent organization is partnered with the William McGee Center in Oxford to provide support and resources for those struggling with mental wellness and substance abuse. Additionally, Porter May '24 received an incredible honor as the first recipient of the Walker Fielder Memorial Scholarship, which honors the love, joy, enthusiasm, and commitment displayed on a daily basis by the late Walker Fielder (PC '20). In response to the tragedies experienced within the fraternity in years past, Eta places the utmost emphasis on the bonds and community within our brotherhood so that each member will have mutual support and love in times of need. We approach the future and our shared growth with optimism—not only for each member's personal goals, but also for the benefit and continuation of the historic legacy of Eta Chapter of Sigma Chi.
