SIGMA NEWS GAMMA PHI BETA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS • FALL 2023 Y our Gamma Phi Beta House Corpora on Board had a busy summer readying the house for our members' return this August. Our improvements include beau ful new landscaping in the front lawn, just in me to show Sigma in the best light for 2023 recruitment. We also gave the back bathroom/printer room a much-needed renova on. The bathroom has been transformed and now boasts an adorable navy leopard design scheme. The live-in members have all said how much they love it. The printer area has been changed into a receiving/mail room for the many Amazon packages that are delivered to the house each day. The space is adorned with a custom Gamma Phi Beta sign and mail cubbies for enhanced storage and organiza on. The entryway to our home received a modern update with the removal of the orange grass cloth wallpaper and now features smooth beau ful white plaster. This change certainly brings a fresh, modernized aesthe c to our Sigma home. The orange loveseats in the trophy room were recovered and are now a lovely shade of blue to match the adjoining living room. Durable and a rac ve LVT flooring was installed on the third floor in place of carpet. This installa on completes our two-year project of upda ng all flooring on the second and third floors. We purchased 12 new ma resses for the sleeping dorms and will con nue to replace them in batches each summer. The bunk beds also all received a clean white coat of paint. We welcome all alumnae to stop by the house this fall to view these fantas c upgrades and to mix and mingle with your Sigma sisters. We will host open houses on September 23, October 28, and November 18. In IIKE, Sigma Affiliated House Corpora on Board Karen Beardslee Asmann '53 resides in Wichita, Kan. She recently turned 90! Susan was a devoted Gamma Phi Beta and dedicated many years of service to the AHC. Many alumnae will remember Susan for the decades she worked on recruitment recommenda ons. Back when recs were required for every new member, Susan spent her summers organizing recs received and used her contacts throughout the country to find recs for ones we did not yet have. She knew the name and hometown of each girl going through recruitment, and whenever she met a chapter member at the sorority house, they were surprised when she already knew their hometown and their ac vi es! Susan was a gi ed musician. She shared her talents with Sigma Chapter by singing in the ini a on choir and playing the piano during recruitment—even years a er gradua ng. She was the president of the Greater Kansas City Gamma Phi Beta Alumnae and was honored to receive the Merit Roll Award, as well as being selected as the "Woman of the Year" for her many contribu ons. Susan will be dearly missed. The printer area was redone to become a mail room for be er organiza on. Undergraduate members are enjoying the new back bathroom design. The house's entryway now has a modern look. Alumnae Updates IN MEMORIAM Lexus Beedy '12 – April 9, 2022
