62 | SOUTHWEST FLORIDA • NEWCOMERS GUIDE TO PARADISE One of the most popular destinations in our area for cyclists is the Legacy Trail, which opened in 2008. Connecting communities in Sarasota, Osprey, Nokomis, Venice and South Venice, the trail is a wide, smoothly paved path for walkers, roller bladers and bicyclists. There are trailheads, parking areas and seating all along the route. There are short, middle and long distance routes ranging from 21 to 62 miles. The new North Port Connector is now open and is accessible at two points: at West Price Boulevard and the Forbes Trail entrance at Deer Prairie Creek Preserve. The stretch from West Price to Interstate 75 runs along backyards of housing but far enough to not be intrusive. Public rest areas are not included.
